Douglas Forest Protection Association   On Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at approximately 1:35 pm, crews from the Douglas Forest Protective Association (DFPA) and Riddle Fire Protection District responded to an escaped debris pile burn located on Council Creek Rd., in Riddle, OR. Upon arrival, rural responders took immediate action and had the 2-acre fire quickly extinguished. DFPA performed mop-up and had the area cleared by 3 pm.  This is a great reminder that even though the Douglas District is no longer in fire season, fires can still happen. Please exercise caution when burning yard debris or when using fire in the woods.   When burning yard debris, make sure to have an adequate fire trail around the pile before ignition begins and have fire tools and a water supply at the burn site.  Debris piles should never be left unattended and should be fully extinguished before leaving the area.  If a debris burn escapes containment, the responsible party may be held FINANCIALLY responsible fo

Bend Police Dept.   On Monday, Oct. 24 at approximately 9:41 p.m., Bend Police responded to a report of a burglary in the 63000 block of Nels Anderson Road in Bend. The business owner was watching the suspect inside the business on video surveillance. Officers were in the area and responded to the burglary in progress. Laura Marie Zachary, a 30-year-old Bend resident, ran from the scene. After a short foot pursuit, officers took Zachary into custody without incident.   Between Sept. 15 and Oct. 24, Bend Police Department investigated multiple commercial burglaries with the same methods. The suspect in these burglaries was identified as a white female who often wore face coverings.  The Redmond Police Department was also investigating nine burglaries using the same methods which occurred between Oct. 15 and Oct. 19. After a joint interview, Redmond PD confirmed Zachary as the suspect in those burglaries as well.  Zachary was lodged at the Deschutes County Jail on the above charges. Addi

Grants Pass Police Department   On October 24, 2022, at approximately 11:33 AM, Grants Pass Police Officers responded to “Udders Ice Cream and Gelato,” at 1893 NE 7 th  Street, to the report of an attempted carjacking.  It was discovered that a white male adult used force against a 66-year-old female resident of Grants Pass when he attempted to physically remove her from her vehicle by pulling on her arm as she was seated in the driver’s seat.  The male suspect also attempted to grab the keys for the vehicle.  Two male citizens came to the aid of the female victim which prevented the furtherance of the suspect’s attack.  The female victim sustained minor injuries due to the attack.  The male suspect was described as a white male adult in his 20’s.  The male had short brown hair, a slender build, and was wearing blue jeans, boots, and a dark hooded sweatshirt from Diamond Lake.  The back of the sweatshirt read, “To Fish or Not to Fish.”  After an extensive area search, the male suspect

Eugene Police Department At around 10:49 p.m. on October 19, a Eugene Police officer was working impaired driver and traffic enforcement for his assigned shift and responded to the intersection of E. 11th Avenue and High Street for a welfare check on a driver slumped over the steering wheel at the stop light. The driver, Andre Lavell Johnson, age 42, of Portland, was found unconscious and police pinned the vehicle in before rousing him. When he woke up, Johnson attempted to start the vehicle and refused commands to stop. He was removed from the vehicle and during this officers spotted a firearm near his feet. Officers also saw bags containing pills, later determined to be fentanyl, matching the description of currently circulating counterfeit oxycodone pills containing fentanyl.  A search incident to arrest found Johnson had a large amount of cash, multiple phones. Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore.  - A Pacific Crest Trail hiker was rescued in the Diamond Peak Wilderness on the Deschutes National Forest by Douglas County Search and Rescue.  On Friday, October 21, 2022, at approximately 10:00 p.m., Klamath County Search and Rescue requested Douglas County SAR take a mission in the Diamond Peak Wilderness on the Deschutes National Forest in Klamath County due to not having available resources. A 57-year-old Pacific Crest Trail thru-hiker, Hassan Falsafi of Weaverville, California, had called 911 and reported he had tried to beat the incoming weather front but was unsuccessful and needed emergent assistance. Falsafi stated all of his clothing, sleeping bag, and other camping supplies had become soaked with rainwater and he was experiencing hypothermia symptoms.  Douglas County Search and Rescue deployed and was able to access the wilderness area from the PCT trailhead at Summit Lake and hike north on the trail to Falsafi's lo

Oregon State Police On Saturday, October 22, 2022 at approximately 12:41 PM, Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a single vehicle crash on northbound Interstate 5 near milepost 148. Preliminary investigation revealed a northbound white Toyota Camry, operated by David Feaver (77) of Modesto, California, lost control on the wet roadway. The Camry struck the embankment and rolled onto its roof.  Feaver was transported by ambulance with critical injuries and later pronounced deceased.  OSP was assisted by North Douglas Fire Department and ODOT. 

Lebanon Fire District A Lebanon man died late Saturday night after a fire started in his double-wide mobile home in rural Lebanon. The occupant’s roommate was able to escape the blaze and call 911. Reports were relayed to the Incident Commander (IC) that there was a possibility of a victim in the home with a dog. The IC arrived to find a fully involved mobile home fire. The IC, after making his 360° assessment, quickly determined the residence was untenable for survivability and that he would not send firefighters inside the structure, making it a defensible fire. Firefighters were able to train fire streams into the building from the outside, noticing several places in the roof area had collapsed. The IC requested 2 additional water tenders from neighboring departments to bring water to the scene. Sheriff's Office On October 21 st , at 4:23 PM, a citizen reported finding mail in the Rogue River near the area of the Roberston Bridge Boat Landing.  Some of the mail contained ballots.  Mail was found from addresses on Paradise Gardens Rd and Greentree Loop.  The Josephine County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind everyone to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities regarding the theft of mail.  Please contact the Josephine County Clerks Office at 541-474-5243 if you have not received your ballot by Wednesday October 26 th .    

Hood River Co. Sheriff's Office Cascade Locks, Ore. - After an extensive Search and Rescue (SAR) effort along the Pacific Crest and Ruckel Creek trails, 33-year-old Nicholas Wells of Camas, WA was located deceased, and his remains recovered. The search began on the evening of Friday, October 21st, 2022, after his wife called the Hood River County Sheriff’s Office to report that her husband, Nick Wells, had gone trail running on the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) and not returned. Having started in the morning, Wells was in touch with his wife off and on through the day and reported having lost the trail at some point but found it again. She became worried when her calls and texts went unanswered. Cell phone location data was obtained through an emergency request with the carrier, and searchers with the Hood River Crag Rats and Pacific Northwest Search & Rescue responded. Hillsboro Fire and Rescue Multiple calls to 911 this evening beginning at 10:00 pm, reporting 10-foot tall flames and heavy black smoke coming from the back and roof of a business at 725 SW Oak Street in Hillsboro. Engine 1 arrived to find the single-story commercial building with active fire. A second alarm was activated to bring additional resources to the scene to help fight the fire. Due to the severity of the fire and concerns about the structural integrity of the building, firefighters did not make entry into the building and fought the fire from the exterior. Firefighters reported that a significant portion of the building was impacted by the fire. No injuries were reported. All eastbound lanes of SW Oak Street were closed between SW Armco Avenue and SW Dennis Avenue while one lane of westbound TV Highway was blocked for firefighting equipment and apparatus.  A fire investigator is working to determine the cause of the fire.  Hillsboro Fire & Rescue thanks its partners who r

Grants Pass Police Department On October 22, 2022, the Grants Pass Police Department received a report of a shoplifter who had fled after stealing over $1,000 in merchandise.  The suspect, later identified as Jerry Glover, was seen by store security leaving the area in a large U-Haul truck. Officers located the U-Haul stopped in a parking lot near Mill Street.  In an effort to prevent Glover from fleeing, officers attempted a driving maneuver designed for that purpose.  However, Glover struck a Grants Pass Police Department patrol car and pushed it out of the way.  Glover caused damage to the front of the police car while making concerted efforts to avoid arrest.  Fortunately, the police officer inside the marked police car was not injured. Jackson Co. Sheriff's Office ROGUE RIVER, Ore. - Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) deputies and Jackson County Animal Services Animal Control officers responded to a residence yesterday afternoon for a report of a sick dog in the front yard. Upon arrival, deputies and Animal Control officers discovered a diseased, neglected dog in the yard and two deceased dogs nearby in the same condition.    Due to the severity of the dogs’ condition, a search warrant was sought and granted for the property on the 6600 block of East Evans Creek Road in Rural Rogue River. Upon entry into the house, JCSO deputies and Animal Control officers discovered 10 more dogs suffering from the same condition. The dogs were diseased, malnourished, and close to death. Living inside the residence were also 10 exotic birds in cages, and at least six cats. Outside of the residence investigators discovered a dead cat and a cage with six pigeons. Jackson Co. Sheriff's Office   GOLD HILL, Ore. - Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) Special Victims Unit (SVU) detectives arrested a Gold Hill man today for multiple sex crimes involving three juvenile victims. The suspect, Ethan Lavelle Williams, 23, of Gold Hill, was charged with four counts of second-degree sexual abuse, third-degree rape, luring a minor, and first-degree online sexual corruption of a child. He is lodged in the Jackson County Jail.   JCSO SVU detectives believe there may be other victims. Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call SVU Detective Wenzel at (541) 770-8928.   This case is under investigation with SVU detectives working additional leads. Further information will come from the Jackson County District Attorney’s office. 

Lane County Sheriff's Office On 10-17-2022 Detectives from the Lane County Sheriff’s Office and Oregon State Police were contacted by OLCC inspectors regarding an illegal butane hash oil (BHO) extraction lab on property in the 83700blk of Raintree St. near Pleasant Hill.  OLCC had responded to the location for a site inspection of a permitted growing operation and noted the BHO lab, as well as marijuana and products outside of the permitted site.   Detectives from LCSO and OSP responded to the location and contacted the owner/permittee.  Investigators applied for and were granted a search warrant executed by detectives and DEA personnel.   Two labs were located on the property.  One inside the residential garage and another was under a covered section outside the garage.  The indoor lab was active and butane vapor was actively venting from a vessel inside the garage.    This odorless vapor is highly volatile and creates a substantial danger of fire and explosion. Josephine Co. Sheriff's Office On October 19, 2022, the Josephine Marijuana Enforcement Team (JMET) received information from a local trucking company that two individuals were attempting to ship approximately 600 pounds of marijuana to Illinois. After the trucking company realized what the two individuals were attempting to do, the driver unloaded his truck and advised the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office where the pallet of marijuana and the two responsible for the shipment could be found.  JMET responded to the location and contacted Moaied Maali and Arfat Najjar.  Upon investigation, detectives located and seized the 600 pounds of marijuana and $25,000 in cash that was later seized by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). Moaied Maali and Arfat Najjar were arrested and lodged in the Josephine County Jail for Unlawful Delivery of Marijuana and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana. Oregon State Police On October 19, 2022, around 8:00 A.M., Oregon State Police Troopers responded to a multi-vehicle crash on southbound Interstate 5 between milepost 228 and 211.  Interstate 5 southbound is completely blocked with a detour in place. Interstate 5 northbound is open but moving slowly. The freeway is expected to be closed most of the day. Preliminary estimates of involved vehicles are 15 to 20 Commercial Motor Vehicles and 45 passenger vehicles with one confirmed fatality.  The Oregon Department of Transportation has temporarily dropped the cable barrier to detour vehicles caught in the gridlock on Interstate 5.  School buses from Eugene have also arrived on the scene to assist in relocating 30-40 stranded motorists to Pioneer Villa at exit 216.  DEQ and HAZMAT are responding to approximately 6 of the CMVs that are leaking fluids onto the roadway.  Several public safety agencies are assisting. Sherwood Police Dept. On Monday, October 10 th , 2022, at approximately 7:04AM Sherwood Officers were dispatched to a prowler call at the Sunfield Lakes Apartment Complex. The caller reported seeing a male looking inside multiple ground floor apartment windows and appeared to know the layout of the complex. Officers arrived on scene and identified the male as Armando Servin-Talavero of Hillsboro.  Further investigation later showed that Mr. Servin-Talavero was seen outside a window with his genitals exposed while masturbating.  On Tuesday, October 18 th , 2022 Sherwood Detectives arrested Mr. Servin-Talavero for ORS 163.465 Public Indecency. Oregon State Police On Saturday, October 15, 2022 at approximately 11:13 PM, Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 84 near milepost 378.  Preliminary investigation revealed a westbound black Freightliner towing a flatbed trailer, operated by Akbar Tanai (32) of San Antonio, TX, was rear-ended by a blue Jeep Liberty, operated by Eric Torres Santana (29) of Caldwell, ID, as they traveled in the slow lane. After the initial collision the Freightliner pulled to the right shoulder and the Jeep came to rest within the fast lane. A black Honda Fit, operated by Tracy Haws (48) of Nampa, ID, was traveling in the westbound fast lane and subsequently struck the Jeep Liberty.  Eric Torres Santana and his passenger, Noel Alejandro Santana Dominguez (20) of Caldwell, ID, were ejected from the Jeep. Oregon State Police On October 3, 2022, Fish and Wildlife Troopers received information from ODFW that a collared wolf, OR88, may be deceased at a location near Little Lookout Mountain, approximately nine miles northeast of Durkee, OR. Fish and Wildlife Troopers and ODFW personnel responded to the area and located a deceased wolf on the Bureau of Land Management Property.  The wolf had injuries consistent with having been shot by a firearm.  The adult wolf, known as OR88 was a black female wolf that was part of the Lookout Mountain Pack.  Troopers believe the wolf was shot at this location on October 2, 2022.    The Oregon Wildlife Coalition and conservation partners are offering to pay an $11,500 reward that leads OSP F&W Troopers to an arrest and/or citation stemming from this incident.  Anyone with information regarding this case is urged to contact OSP through the Turn in Poachers (TIP) hotline at 1-800-452-7888 or dial *OSP (mobile).   Reference case number SP22266783.  ***Rep
