FATAL CRASH ON HWY 199-JOSEPHINE COUNTY

Oregon State Police On Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at approximately 4:00 PM, Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a single vehicle crash on Hwy 199 near milepost 38.  Preliminary investigation revealed a white Ford pickup, operated by an adult male who is a California resident, was northbound and crossed the over the oncoming lanes, exited the roadway and struck several trees.  The operator of the Ford sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased. The name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.  Hwy 199 was affected for approximately 3 hours.  OSP was assisted by Josephine County Sheriff’s Office, Illinois Valley Fire Department and ODOT. 

DEPUTIES SEIZE 92,000 FENTANYL PILLS, OTHER DRUGS DURING INVESTIGATION

Multnomah Co. Sheriff's Office Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) Special Investigations Unit (SIU) deputies seized 92,000 fentanyl pills, 3 pounds of cocaine and 10 pounds of meth during a recent investigation. On Sunday, September 18, 2022, deputies learned that a person was driving to the Portland-area with a substantial amount of illegal drugs. SIU deputies, with the assistance of Clackamas County  Interagency Task Force , located and followed the vehicle into Clackamas County. A traffic stop was initiated by Clackamas County sheriff’s deputies and SIU presented the search warrant to the driver. Inside the car, deputies discovered fentanyl, cocaine and meth. Drug tests revealed that the cocaine was also cut with fentanyl, which is a rising trend SIU has observed in the metro area. TWO ARRESTED IN LOCAL TAVERN ROBBERY

Salem Police Department Salem, Ore.  —Salem Police detectives have arrested two individuals involved in the robbery of a local bar earlier this month. On September 4 at approximately 11:30 a.m., an employee of the Graveyard Bar, located in the 2400 block of State ST, reported being robbed at gunpoint by a man wearing a mask. The employee, Mylicia Marie Mailkoff, reported the gunman left the establishment with more than $10,000. Through the investigation, the detectives identified the suspect as Daniel Francis Lee Demarre, age 30. Detectives learned that the 30-year-old Mailkoff lived with Demarre across the street from the business. The investigators also determined the actual amount of money stolen was more than $30,000. Demarre and Mailko each face three counts of aggravated theft in the first degree.

Pedestrian Killed in Motor Vehicle Accident on the Bend Parkway

Bend Police Dept.   At approximately 12:19 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 21, officers from the Bend Police Department and deputies from the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report that a vehicle had struck a pedestrian in the northbound lanes of the Bend Parkway south of the Empire Avenue exit in Bend.  Officers arrived and medically assessed the pedestrian, identified as 43-year-old Bend resident Jennifer Bell. Bell suffered fatal injuries due to the impact of the crash. The original caller was the driver of the involved 2017 black Mazda CX-5, 29-year-old Portland resident Austin Smith. Two additional callers reported seeing the pedestrian standing still in the roadway prior to the collision. Smith cooperated with the investigation. At this time, investigators have ruled out speed and intoxication as factors in the crash. Members of the Bend Police crash reconstruction team responded to investigate and process the scene. MANZANITA REST AREA SHOOTING

Grants Pass Police Department Grants Pass, OR. - On Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at 4:17 PM, law enforcement officers from the Oregon State Police and the Josephine County Sheriff's Office responded to a 911 call reporting shots fired within the Northbound Manzanita Rest Area on I-5, just north of the Merlin Rd. Exit. The 911 caller further reported a female had been shot. Upon arrival, Troopers and Deputies were confronted by the male suspect, which resulted in an officer-involved shooting. The involved Troopers and Deputies have been placed on administrative leave per Senate Bill 111 protocols.  The incident is being investigated by the Grants Pass Police Department, assisted by the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, Medford Police Department, and the Oregon State Police Forensic Laboratory. Search Warrant Served on Illegal Marijuana Operation south of Junction City

Lane County Sheriff's Office The Lane County Sheriff’s Office recently received a tip regarding a large-scale illegal marijuana grow operation south of Junction City.  Lane County Sheriff’s Deputies were granted a warrant to search the involved property in the 30000blk of Maple Dr.   Authorities executed the warrant on 09/15/22 and seized approximately 8,000 illegal marijuana plants, 4,822 pounds of dried marijuana, processed concentrated marijuana products known as ‘BHO’ or ‘Butane Honey Oil’, nearly $50,000 in cash and $32,000 in silver.  Authorities also seized a luxury vehicle that was believed to have been purchased using funds from the illegal operation.     This illegal operation was located directly adjacent to the Willamette River. OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING INVESTIGATION-GRANTS PASS POLICE DEPARTMENT-JOSEPHINE COUNTY

Oregon State Police On Monday, September 19, 2022 at 7:55 PM, officers from the Grants Pass Police Department responded to a call reporting suspicious activity in progress at a city park.  In response to the call, an officer involved shooting occurred on SW Westholm Avenue in Grants Pass. An adult male was shot by an officer during the incident. The involved officer has been placed on administrative leave per Senate Bill 111 protocols.  The incident is being investigated by the Oregon State Police assisted by the Oregon State Police Forensic Laboratory. The investigation will be referred to the Josephine County District Attorney’s Office for review upon completion. This is an active investigation and no further information will be released at this time. 

FATAL CRASH ON HWY 140-JACKSON COUNTY

Oregon State Police On Sunday, September 18, 2022 at approximately 2:31 PM, Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a two-vehicle crash on Hwy 140 near milepost 17 in Jackson County. Preliminary investigation revealed an eastbound white Lexus SUV, operated by Elizabeth Reynolds of La Jolla, CA, attempted to make a U-turn, turning in front of an eastbound gray Chevrolet Tahoe, operated by Cory M. Trujillo (29) of Grants Pass. The Chevrolet collided with the driver’s side of the Lexus.  Reynolds sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased. Her two dogs survived and were taken to the Jackson County Animal Shelter. Trujillo was uninjured.  Hwy 140 was affected for approximately 3 hours.  OSP was assisted by Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, AMR and ODOT. 

FATAL CRASH ON HWY 38-DOUGLAS COUNTY

Oregon State Police On Sunday, September 18, 2022 at approximately 1:34 PM, Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a single vehicle crash on Hwy 38 near milepost 53.  Preliminary investigation revealed a westbound Toyota Prius, operated by Nathan F. Rowe (29) of Yoncalla, lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a curve. The vehicle left the roadway and struck an embankment, overturned and caught fire.  Rowe sustained critical injuries and was transported to Riverbend Medical Center. A passenger, Kelsey Willburn (28) sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased.  Hwy 38 was affected for 4 hours while the OSP Collision Reconstruction Unit investigated.  OSP was assisted by Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Douglas County Medical Examiner, North Douglas County Fire and EMS and ODOT.

PPB SEARCHING FOR 7 YEAR-OLD GIRL, REQUESTING PUBLIC HELP

Portland Police Bureau Yamilet Martinez has been located safe and sound in the area of Laurelhurst Park. Yamilet was found inside of the stolen vehicle. Yamilet will be reunited with her family shortly at the East Precinct, where a Command Post was established to organize the search for her. Portland Police Missing Persons Detectives will continue to investigate the incident. There were approximately 50 PPB officers searching for Yamilet. We received many tips from the community and we are grateful for their help. On Sunday, September 18, 2022, at 6:50 p.m., officers from the East Precinct responded to a stolen vehicle call where the victim’s child was asleep in the car. This incident occurred in the area of Southeast 49th and Southeast Powell Boulevard. Roseburg Police Dept. On September 17 th , at about 9:00 pm, Roseburg police officers attempted to stop on a white, 2018 Nissan Sentra that was being operated by Jeff Reece (40), of Roseburg,  after observing him commit several traffic violations and almost striking two pedestrians as he sped through a stop sign.  Reece failed to stop for officers and a vehicle pursuit was initiated but due to Reece's speeds through a neighborhood, the pursuit was terminated. A short time later, officers located Reece stopped in his vehicle in the middle of the Stewart Parkway Bridge.   Officers had prior information Reece was in possession of multiple firearms and Reece refused to exit his vehicle and made threats to shoot himself.  Members of the Roseburg Police Department Emergency Response Team, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Tactical Response Team and a S.W.A.T. member with the Oregon State Police responded, along with the Roseburg Police Department Hostage Negotiation Team.  After about an h

FATAL CRASH ON HWY 97-DESCHUTES COUNTY

Oregon State Police On Friday September 16 th , 2022 at approximately 8:15AM, Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a four-vehicle crash on Highway 97 near milepost 127, south of Redmond.  Preliminary investigation revealed that a silver 2003 Jeep Liberty, operated by a 16-year-old female Redmond resident, had been traveling southbound and for unknown reasons, initiated a lane change and lost control of the vehicle.  The Jeep Liberty crossed over into oncoming lanes, striking a black 2018 Jeep Renegade that was traveling northbound.  The Jeep Renegade was pushed onto the northbound shoulder where it rolled multiple times.  The Jeep Liberty next collided into a northbound white 2012 GMC Yukon, and subsequently an additional vehicle, a grey 2017 Toyota Camry that had been traveling southbound behind the Jeep Liberty.  The silver Jeep Liberty was operated by a 16-year-old female Redmond resident who sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased.  The Jee

ARREST MADE IN TRIPLE FATAL CRASH

Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore.  - An arrest has been made in the triple fatal crash that claimed the lives of three victims in the 18000-block fo Cow Creek Road near Riddle on August 16, 2022.  On Thursday, September 15, 2022, detectives arrested 21-year-old Roseburg resident Uriah James Carleton in connection with the deaths. The investigation lead detectives to believe that Carleton was intoxicated at the time of the crash which killed Myrtle Creek residents Janeva Hodgson, age 20, and her 18-year-old brother Caleb Hodgson along with 16-year-old Kiya Speckman of Riddle. Carleton was taken into custody without incident and lodged at the Douglas County Jail on three counts of Manslaughter in the Second Degree.  Investigators have continued investigating the incident since it occurred a month ago, but encourages anyone with information to come forward by calling (541) 440-4458.

Deschutes Co. Sheriff's Office The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for their assistance in locating Marina Turrini. Turrini was reported missing on September 16, 2022. She walked away from a camp in the area of China Hat Road near mile post 30. She was last seen in the area between 3:00 AM and 6:00 AM.  Turrini was last seen wearing a royal blue long sleeve shirt, black fleece pants, hiking boots, blue puffy jacket, and an orange beanie hat. Turrini has pink hair, and a circular patterned upper back tattoo. Turrini is from the San Jose, California area, so she is unfamiliar with Central Oregon. DINT MAKES FENTANYL ARREST AND SERVES WARRANT ON ILLEGAL MARIJUANA OPERATION

Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team (DINT) On August 30, 2022, the Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team (DINT) executed a search warrant on a large-scale illegal marijuana operation occurring in the remote timber area in Tiller, Oregon. During the execution of the search warrant, detectives seized and destroyed 15,925 marijuana plants, 4,120 pounds of processed marijuana, and seized three firearms.  The illegal operation was occurring on privately owned land, surrounded by federal timber land. Parts of the operation were also being conducted on the federal timber land. In addition to the unlawful manufacture of marijuana, detectives found multiple unpermitted structures, trash, debris, and human waste spread throughout the property. Water was also being illegally impounded and diverted to holding tanks on the property to be used for the illegal operation. Multiple individuals attempted to flee on foot from law enforcement. Oregon State Police The suspect in a multi-state crime spree has been identified as Jamie Lee Cochran (42). He has spent time in West Virginia and Utah but is currently transient. After consultation with partner agencies the following is believed to be the timeline of events: On Sunday, September 11, 2022, Mr. Cochran is believed to have burglarized a daycare in Salt Lake City, UT, where he stole a van that was driven through the fence of the daycare. The stolen van was later located in Elko, NV. On Tuesday, September 13, 2022, Mr. Cochran is then believed to have stolen a quad that was driven to a residence where a home invasion robbery was committed. Sheriff's Office On September 15, 2022, the Josephine Marijuana Enforcement Team (JMET) and Josephine County Code Enforcement executed a search warrant in the 100 block of Kubli Road in Josephine County regarding an illegal marijuana grow site. During the execution of the warrant more than 3,800 growing marijuana plants and approximately 1,000 pounds of processed marijuana was seized and destroyed.  The property also had multiple electrical, water and solid waste code violations. These violations could result in the civil forfeiture of the property.  On this same day JMET learned that Alex James Giebler, who was suspected of running the illegal marijuana grow operation, was traveling to the Medford Airport on a commercial flight. Giebler was contacted at that location by members of JMET, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and a K9 Detective from Medford Police Department (MPD). Multnomah Co. Sheriff's Office The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) continues its efforts to reduce gun and traffic violence in East Multnomah County. On the evening of September 11, deputies teamed-up with Gresham Police Department officers to perform a public safety mission, which yielded 45 traffic stops, 5 arrests and 1 firearm seizure. This mission was a part of MCSO’s Enhanced Public Safety Initiative (EPSI). Launched in April 2022, EPSI is a data-driven violence reduction strategy focusing on reckless driving, speeding, impairment, gun violence and violent crime, particularly in communities and high crash corridors east of 162nd Avenue. Since these efforts began, the missions have resulted in 276 traffic stops, 61 arrests, 9 recovered stolen vehicles and two recovered firearms, and deputies are credited with saving a person’s life by reversing a drug overdose. OREGON STATE POLICE NORTHWEST REGION MARIJUANA TEAM SERVES SEARCH WARRANT, RECOVERS STOLEN PROPERTY, AND RESCUES LIVESTOCK

Oregon State Police On September 13, 2022, the Oregon State Police, Drug Enforcement Section, Northwest Region Marijuana Team (OSP NWR MJ) served search warrants on South Criteser Road, south of Oregon City, OR.  Investigators with NWR MJ began the investigation after discovering 22 greenhouses not registered to grow hemp or licensed to grow marijuana. During the search warrant operation, investigators found nine horses and four cattle that were malnourished and in need of veterinary care. The Oregon Humane Society and Sound Equine Options, an Oregon based non-profit equine rescue organization, responded to help with documenting animal evidence and to take possession of the horses and cattle. Deschutes Co. Sheriff's Office The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance in locating a missing Bend area man last seen on September 10 th  around 10:00 am. John McPheeters, 64, was reported missing this morning. He was last known to be living off the east side of Hwy 97 near mile post 132, just north of Bend. McPheeters is known to frequent the area of Robal Lane and Hwy 97.   McPheeters is described as a white male, 5’ 8”, weighing approximately 130 pounds, with medium length brown hair and a gray beard. McPheeters last known clothing description is a tie dye t-shirt, blue jeans, brown boots and an unknown color jacket. McPheeters also routinely carries a blue duffle bag.   A recent photo of McPheeters is attached to this press release.    Anyone with information or that may have seen McPheeters is asked to call non-emergency dispatch at 541-693-6911.
