404TH BASIC POLICE CLASS TO GRADUATE FROM OREGON PUBLIC SAFETY ACADEMY

The Basic Police Class is 16-weeks in length and includes dozens of training areas including survival skills, firearms, emergency vehicle operations, ethics, cultural diversity, problem solving, community policing, elder abuse, drug recognition, and dozens of other subjects. ARREST MADE IN SEX ABUSE INVESTIGATION

  Salem Police Dept. Detectives concerned there may be more victims Salem, Ore. — Salem Police detectives have arrested Luis Fernando Del Rio JR, age 35 of Salem, after an investigation into allegations of sex abuse identified Del Rio as having victimized four children. Del Rio was charged with the following: Four counts of first-degree sodomy Six counts of first-degree sexual abuse The investigation also determined Del Rio’s wife ran a childcare business in their Salem-area home. Since Del Rio had access to many children, detectives are concerned there may be more victims. Del Rio has used the names Fernando, Freddy and Nando. He has lived in the Salem-Keizer area, McMinnville, Oregon and Twin Falls, Idaho. HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION UNDERWAY - VICTIM IDENTIFIED

  Washington Co. Sheriff's Office On February 18, 2021, at 1:52 p.m. Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a shooting call in the 17800 block of SW Kinnaman Road where one person had been shot. When deputies arrived, they learned the victim had been transported to the Providence Urgent Care in Tanasbourne. When deputies arrived at the Urgent Care, they discovered the victim was deceased. The victim has been identified as 32-year-old Jeremy Lee Covey of Portland. Detectives from the  Washington County Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Unit  responded to the scene to investigate the homicide. The investigation is ongoing; more information will be released as it becomes available. DEPUTIES RESCUE INFANT, ARREST ONE FOLLOWING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ASSAULT

Sheriff's Office On Friday, February 19, 2021, at approximately 1:13 a.m., Multnomah County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a reported assault at a home in unincorporated Multnomah County near Powell Butte Nature Park. An adult female reported being physically assaulted by an adult male before fleeing the residence to call for help. The woman also reported that, in her escape, she left her three-month-old infant behind. She feared her child was in grave danger. As deputies responded, they learned the suspect, Zaday Atenogenes Rojas, 35, was reportedly in possession of weapons. As deputies rushed to her aid, they witnessed the suspect’s vehicle, a red Ford SUV, leaving the area at a high rate of speed. They observed it crash into another car and a snowbank in the 17400 block of SE Franklin Court in Southeast Portland, (pictures attached). WOMAN RESCUED FROM 55 FOOT DROP INTO A WELL

 Silverton Fire District The Silverton Fire District responded to the 3000 block of Crooked Finger Road outside of Scotts Mills on a report of an elderly female who had fallen through the wood top of an old well. Responders arrived and found the person conscious, injured and very hypothermic after she fell about 50-60 feet from through the covering of an old stone lined well. She was laying on a small outcropping partially submerged in water. As fire responders arrived, a neighbor used the property owner’s rope and pulley, went down into the well to keep her upright and to keep her from being submerged in the well water.   Salem Fire Department’s rope rescue team was called to the scene. Salem Fire was able to lower a rescuer down into the well, stabilize the patient and hoist her to the top of the well opening. She was transported to the hospital in serious condition. MAN ARRESTED FOR DISPLAYING A GUN DURING ROAD RAGE INCIDENT

Sheriff's Office On Tuesday, February 16, 2021, at 10:31 p.m., a Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputy was flagged down by a man near the 2900 block of E Baseline St. in Cornelius, Oregon. The man told the deputy another vehicle was driving recklessly, began tailgating him near the Hillsboro Police Station (located at 250 SE 10th Ave.), and said the driver eventually pointed a gun at him. The man told the deputy he had already called 9-1-1 and provided the California license plate of the vehicle he had seen driving recklessly. Another deputy in the area heard the information from dispatch and spotted the vehicle that the suspect had been driving recklessly, a black 2016 Chevrolet Colorado, in the Cornelius Fred Meyer parking lot. Multiple deputies arrived to assist and take the driver, 23-year-old Bailey Michael Todd Reasoner of Vernonia, into custody without incident. CRASH CLAIMS THE LIFE OF DAYS CREEK MAN

 Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office DAYS CREEK, Ore. - A 78 year-old man died Tuesday morning in a traffic crash on Ferguson Lane in Days Creek.  Shortly before 11:30 am on Tuesday, February 16, 2021, deputies were dispatched to a single vehicle crash in the 500-block of Ferguson Lane. Information provided by the 9-1-1 caller reported that a pickup had left the roadway and was partially in the river.  When deputies arrived on scene, they located a 2000 Toyota Tacoma that had left the roadway for an unknown reason and rolled down the steep embankment. The vehicle was lying on its side partially in the waterway. When fire and EMS crews arrived, they removed the driver, identified as 78 year-old John Albert Boone of Days Creek, from the pickup and declared him deceased at the scene. Boone was the only occupant in the vehicle and was found to not be wearing a safety belt. Next of kin has been notified. 

Suspect arrested on 18 charges following Feb 2nd crime spree

Grants Pass Dept. of Public Safety On February 2, 2021 at around 9:00 am, the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety (GPDPS) received a report of an unarmed robbery which occurred in the parking lot of Umpqua Bank, 117 NE F St. The suspect pushed the 73-year-old victim and stole money from his hand. Fortunately, the victim was not injured during this incident. Numerous officers responded to the scene but were unable to locate the suspect at that time. Later that morning, GPDPS received numerous reports of thefts from motor vehicles and burglaries which occurred on Scoville Rd and NE Scenic Dr. Several officers responded to investigate the crimes that occurred at five properties in the area. During the course of the investigation, it was determined the suspect unlawfully entered two residences, one outbuilding, and at least five vehicles, committing thefts at most locations. Sheriff's Office offers carbon-monoxide safety tips after multiple deaths, close calls during winter storm, power outages

Sheriff's Office Since a  severe, multi-day winter storm  hit Clackamas County starting Thursday afternoon (Feb. 11, 2021), many residents have been forced to make do without electricity. Long-term power outages combined with cold temperatures led many residents to seek  alternate heating sources  -- which led to several hazardous incidents involving  carbon-monoxide poisoning . Since the storm and outages began, Clackamas County emergency personnel have responded to several close calls -- and multiple deaths -- linked to carbon monoxide (CO). Limited information is currently available on these cases -- the Clackamas County Medical Examiner's Office is still investigating, and in some cases the families of those involved have asked for privacy. However, the Sheriff's Office can confirm that from Saturday-Monday, Feb. 13-15, there were three incidents of suspected carbon-monoxide poisoning resulting in death within Clackamas County. In August of 2020, The McMinnville Police Department’s Detective Section received information from the Oregon Department of Justice regarding numerous “cybertips” they received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).  Collectively the cybertips contained information about someone uploading several hundred sexually explicit images of children by means of an internet service provider.   Detective Brice Winters conducted the overall investigation, which involved obtaining a search warrant for a specific residence in McMinnville.  During the service of the search warrant, various electronic devices were seized.  Certain electronic devices were later analyzed with assistance from the electronic forensic analysists at the Newberg-Dundee Police Department and the devices were found to contain thousands of images of concern.   The overall case was submitted to the Yamhill County District Attorney’s Office for ...

MALHEUR COUNTY MAN SENTENCED TO 12 YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON FOR TRAFFICKING METHAMPHETAMINE

  U.S. Attorney's Office - District of Oregon EUGENE, Ore.— Carlos Alberto Berrios, Jr., 30, of Ontario, Oregon, was sentenced today to 120 months in federal prison and five years’ supervised release for trafficking methamphetamine in and around Malheur County, Oregon, announced U.S. Attorney Billy J. Williams. According to court documents, on April 24, 2018, Berrios was riding in a vehicle when it was stopped for a traffic violation by a Malheur County Sheriff’s Office deputy. Berrios was seated in the vehicle with a backpack on the floor between his legs and a gun holster between his left leg and the vehicle’s center console. After determining that Berrios had an outstanding felony arrest warrant and the driver did not have a license or insurance, the deputy called for a tow truck and began impounding the vehicle. Dept. of Public Safety Standards and Training The Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) is pleased to announce the graduation of its 122nd Basic Telecommunications Class. The three-week course includes emergency call handling techniques, stress management, civil liability, ethics, criminal law, overview of fire-rescue and law enforcement operations, and a number of other topics. Upon completion of the course, students will return to their employing agency to continue their training for a number of months with a field training officer. The 9-1-1 training program began in 1993 when the Oregon Legislative Assembly enacted legislation which requires that individuals who receive emergency calls for assistance from the public, meet professional standards for training and certification. There are approximately 950 men and women across the state who work in this profession in city, county, tribal, regional, and state public safety communications centers. ...

FATAL CRASH - ECOLA STATE PARK RD. - CLATSOP COUNTY

  Oregon State Police On Monday, February 15, 2021 at approximately 6:04 P.M., Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a single vehicle crash on Ecola State Park Road.  Preliminary investigation revealed a Mazda MZ3, operated by Rony Tomas-Garcia (23) of Seaside, was southbound on Ecola State Park Road when it veered off the road, struck a tree, and came to rest on its top.  A 3 1/2 month old baby girl sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased. A passenger, Esperanza Martin-Ramirez (20) of Roseburg,  was transported to Columbia Memorial Hospital and later transferred to OHSU. Tomas-Garcia was transported to Columbia Memorial Hospital and released after receiving medical treatment.  He was arrested for Manslaughter, Assault, Reckless Driving and DUII.  He was lodged in the Clatsop County Jail.   OSP was assisted by Cannon Beach Police Department, Seaside Fire Department and Cannon Beach Fire ...

ELDERLY WOMAN WITH DEMENTIA MISSING IN NORTHEAST PORTLAND

  Portland Police Bureau Portland Police are asking for help locating 88-year-old Eleanor Mitchell, who is believed to have walked away from her home in the 5500 Block of Northeast 15th Avenue today, February 14, 2021, at about 10:00 a.m. Eleanor Mitchell suffers from dementia. Officers have canvassed the area since being called to her house, but have not found her. Based on information gathered, it is possible she was seen walking in the area of Northeast Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Northeast Ainsworth Street at about 12:00 p.m. She is not familiar with using the transit system. Eleanor Mitchell is an African American female. She is about 5'4", 180 pounds, with gray hair. It is not known what kind of clothing she was wearing when she left her house. Police ask that anyone who sees Eleanor Mitchell, or knows where she is, call 911.

  Salem Police Dept. Salem, Ore.  — On Sunday, February 14, 2021, at approximately 4:00 a.m., Salem Police officers responded to 3300 block of Astoria WY NE on a report of shots fired. Arriving officers located two adult men at the location with serious injuries including gunshot wounds. Officers provided immediate trauma treatment until medics arrived. Detectives responded to the scene and are actively working the case. The initial findings indicate there is no danger to the public. This is an active investigation and no identifications will be made, nor medical conditions released at this time. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call the Salem Police Tips line at 503-588-8477.
