Marion Co. Sheriff's Office The Marion County Sheriff’s Office is actively collaborating with public health professionals and public safety partners to ensure we are prepared to maintain public safety services for Marion County.   As a precaution to protect our staff and ensure we continue to fulfill our core function of keeping our community safe, our team will be adapting our services to focus on essential public safety needs.  Applying the best practices and recommendations related to reducing the spread of COVID-19, the Sheriff’s Office will be postponing community meetings, attendance at community events, volunteer programs at the jail, citizen ride-a-longs, and tours of Sheriff’s Office facilities effective immediately.  Our team at the Sheriff’s Office appreciate the strong connections we have with our community members and will work to resume these activities at our earliest opportunity.  Internally the women and men from the Sheriff’s Office have taken steps

YAMHILL COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE TO MODIFY OFFICE ACCESSIBILITY TO PUBLIC BEGINNING MONDAY

Yam hill Co. Sheriff's Office The Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office will be implementing temporary changes in protocol and the services we offer to the public due to the COVID-19 virus situation.   These changes are being implemented to protect our staff, the public, and inmates who interact with YCSO corrections employees. Effective Monday, March 16th, the main business office of the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office will remain staffed but closed to the public. This includes Dog Control licensing.  Items emailed to the Sheriff’s Office or mailed through the postal service will be processed normally.  In addition, items placed in our secure drop box, located in our exterior lobby, will also continue to be processed. Concealed Handgun License processing and fingerprinting services will be suspended until further notice. Patrol Deputies are being instructed to answer calls for service via telephone if possible but will continue to respond in person to emergency situations

Oregon State Police Requesting Public's Assistance with sex abuse case in Douglas County

Oregon State Police  On March 1, 2020 an Oregon State Police Trooper conducted a traffic stop in the area of Glide in Douglas County. The Trooper contacted the driver, Brandyn Olinger (21) of Winston, and a 15 year old female passenger.  The Trooper contacted the mother of the 15 year old and determined she did not have permission to be with Olinger.  The mother came and picked up the 15 year old from the traffic stop. Dr. Bob Dannenhoffer, the County’s Public Health Officer says the affected individual, a resident of Douglas County, is medically stable. Detectives Seek Witnesses in Kidnapping and Sexual Abuse Investigation

Washington Co. Sheriff's Office On Thursday, March 5, 2020, at 8:52 a.m., Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the Plaid Pantry Store located at 20375 W Baseline Road in Aloha. Deputies discovered a woman had asked the clerk to call the police because an unknown man dragged her under a nearby bridge and attempted to sexually assault her. Deputies arrived and located the suspect, 31-year-old O’Neal Payne, a few blocks away.  Deputies attempted to detain Mr. Payne, but he tried to flee by fighting with deputies. In the subsequent struggle, Mr. Payne was tased by deputies before they were able to safely arrest him. Detectives later interviewed the woman and found out she boarded the MAX train in Clackamas en route to Aloha. Mr. Payne was on the MAX train and followed the woman when she exited the train at the Willow Creek MAX stop. As the woman got near SW 197th Avenue, Mr. Payne grabbed her and dragged her under a nearby bridge. Once under the bridge, Mr.

DCSO Marijuana Enforcement Detectives Serve Four Search Warrants in Connection with Illegal Grow Operation

Sheriff's Office On March 4, 2020, marijuana enforcement detectives with the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with the Deschutes County Marijuana Enforcement Team, the Central Oregon Drug Enforcement Team (CODE) and Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team, served multiple search warrants associated with an illegal marijuana grow operation in Deschutes County. The first search warrant was executed at a residence on Zagt Lane, south of Sunriver.  The residence had been the focus of a long term investigation and after utilizing various investigative techniques, detectives applied for and were granted a search warrant for the residence and property.  At this location, detectives located and seized over 350 marijuana plants in various stages of growth to support a steady supply of usable marijuana, as well as approximately 16 pounds of processed marijuana.  Detectives also encountered unsanitary conditions where the marijuana was being produced, t

FATAL HOUSE FIRE

Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office OAKLAND, Ore.  - A house fire in Oakland has claimed the life of an Oakland man.   On Wednesday, March 4, 2020, at 9:18 am, deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 800-block of South Cabin Creek Road for a home which had burned sometime during the night.  Deputys along with North Douglas Fire and Ambulance responded to the scene. The structure, a manufactured mobile home, was a complete loss. Human remains, believed to be those of 61 year-old Allen D. Lundeen of Oakland, were located inside of the structure. The fire is not considered to be suspicious at this time.  The Douglas County Medical Examiner's Office and State Fire Marshal's Office are continuing the investigation.  Next of kin has been notified.  Case #20-1068

KLAMATH FALLS WOMAN RESCUED BY SEARCH AND RESCUE NEAR SUSAN CREEK

Sheriff's Office IDLEYLD PARK, Ore.  - A Klamath Falls woman was rescued near Susan Creek Falls on Wednesday night.  Shortly after 8:00 pm on March 4, 2020, 911 dispatchers received a call from 40 year-old Corrine Marie Compton reporting she was lost in the Susan Creek area. Compton told dispatchers she had lost the trail and was slipping on the side of a cliff.  Douglas County Search and Rescue was activated and located Compton approximately a mile and a half east of the Susan Creek walking bridge.  Compton was found to be beneath the North Umpqua Trail.  Searchers were able to extract Compton and walked out with her to the highway. She was uninjured and did not require medical attention. She was later transferred to her vehicle.  Compton was hiking with a 12-week old blue nose pit bull which was wearing a red harness and a purple leash. The two became separated during the hike.  Searchers were unable to locate the dog at the time of the resc

Serious Injury Bicyclist Accident (Possible Hit and Run)

Medford Police Dept. On March 4th at approximately 6:42 PM, Medford Fire Rescue and Mercy Flights Ambulance were dispatched to a report of adult male down in the Fred Meyer south parking lot near Taco Bell. The patient was found unresponsive with a head injury. The patient was transported to Asante Rogue Regional Medic Center where he is currently being treated.                    The scene indicated the patient was operating bicycle when the incident occurred. Additional information received suggested a motor vehicle might have been involved in the incident (not confirmed at this time.) Medford Police Department patrol officers responded to the scene to investigate. Additional resources to include Medford Police detectives and members of the Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team (STAR) responded to assist with the investigation. At this time the incident remains under investigation. The Medford Police Department is asking for any witnesses to reach out to investigators

Vehicle Drives Into Willamette River; Recovery Efforts Underway

Marion Co. Sheriff's Office On March 4th, 2020, at shortly after 4:00 pm, emergency crews were dispatched to the report of a SUV that drove into the Willamette River at the Wheatland Ferry, just north of Keizer.  Prior to emergency crews arriving on scene, the vehicle was completely submerged in the water.  Witnesses at the scene reported only seeing one person in the vehicle when it entered the river.  At this time the vehicle has not yet been located and the identity of the driver is unknown. Efforts to locate the vehicle have been suspended for the night due to the darkness, the recovery operation will resume tomorrow morning.  During recovery efforts, the Willamette River Boat Launch on Matheny Road will be closed.  Search crews do not anticipate disrupting traffic using the Wheatland Ferry during search operations.. Marion County Fire District#1 Battles Hemp Dryer Fire

Marion Co. Fire Dist. #1 Firefighters from Marion County Fire District #1 responded to a fire in a Hemp drying facility in rural Marion County.  The fire was reported at 4:43 PM on Tuesday March 3rd in the area of Howell Prairie Rd and Sunnyview Rd NE.  Firefighters from Salem Fire Department, and Silverton Fire District assisted in the extinguishment of the fire with a total of more than forty (40) firefighters on command units, fire engines, medic units, water tenders and a ladder truck on scene to put out the fire.  It took crews nearly four (4) hours to get the fire under control due to the particularly difficult access to the fire located within heavy machinery inside the structure.  There were no reports of civilian injuries, but two Firefighters were taken to Salem Hospital with minor injuries and released that same evening.  Total loss is estimated at $750,000. The fire started in one of the Hemp dryer machines.

Roseburg Area Shop Destroyed by Fire

Douglas Co. Fire Dist. No.2 A small Roseburg area shop was destroyed by fire on Wednesday evening.  At 7:35 p.m., firefighters from Douglas County Fire District No. 2 responded to several reports of an unknown type building on fire near 337 Black Oak Drive.   Firefighters arrived to find a small shop fully involved with fire with several trees nearby also in fire.  Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the trees and worked to extinguish the shop fire.  No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation. Douglas County Fire District No. 2 responded to the incident with 11 firefighters including 3 engines, 1 water tender, and 1 command unit.  They were assisted by Lookingglass Fire District and Roseburg Fire Department.

Stranger accused of kidnapping, sexually abusing four year old girl

Multnomah Co. District Attorney's Office Today, Multnomah County District Attorney Rod Underhill announced the filing of a six-count Jessica’s Law indictment against 25-year-old Richy Kinu. Jessica’s Law went into effect in 2006 and requires a 25 year mandatory minimum sentence for adults convicted of raping, sodomizing or sexually penetrating a child younger than 12 years old, or when an adult is convicted of kidnapping a child under the age of 12 in furtherance of the commission of, or attempted commission, of one of those same sexual crimes listed above. Kinu is charged with three counts of kidnapping in the first degree, two counts of sexual abuse in the first degree and one count of kidnapping in the second degree. According to a probable cause affidavit, on August 12, 2019, just after midnight, Portland Police responded to the area of Southeast 92nd Avenue and Southeast Mt. Gresham Police Investigating Shooting in Neighborhood

Gresham Police Dept Gresham, Ore. - Gresham Police are investigating a shooting that occurred in the early evening hours of Monday evening. Around 5:40pm, several residents in the area of NE 189th/NE Hassalo called police to report the sounds of gunfire in the area. While police were enroute, another caller said a car had crashed into another car in that area and multiple people were fighting outside of the cars. Prior to police arriving, people ran off on foot in multiple directions. Police located a 21-year-old male victim with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound nearby who was taken by ambulance to a local trauma hospital for treatment. Detectives and crime scene resources were called to the scene to piece together what happened, and to see if the car crash is related to the shooting, and if so, how the two events are related. As of this writing, there have not been any arrests made, but police are interviewing multiple people as possible witnesses, or involved parties. I

Sex Offense Investigation leading to an arrest

Grants Pass Dept. of Public Safety On 03-02-2020, detectives with the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety conducted an investigation into a adult male luring a juvenile via a social media platform. During the investigation, it was determined Octavio Virrueta from Vancouver Washington  invited a juvenile to a local motel in Grants Pass for the purpose of having sexual contact. Virrueta also exchanged illicit photographs with the juvenile, which were sexual in nature. Detectives with the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety were able to locate and arrest Virrueta at a local motel on the above listed charges. Virrueta was lodged at the Josephine County Jail. Woman Arrested after Stabbing Boyfriend in the Neck

Sheriff's Office On Saturday, February 29, 2020, at 1:22 a.m., Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of an injured man at the Chevron station at 17095 SW TV Highway in Aloha. Employees reported the man was bleeding from the head and neck. The male told deputies he had been stabbed by his girlfriend. A short time later, a woman reported that she and her boyfriend had been involved in an altercation at a residence in the 16100 block of SW Rosa Road in Aloha. She said her boyfriend stabbed her prior to leaving the home. Deputies quickly concluded these events were related and collected relevant evidence from the crime scene. After their investigation, deputies arrested 36-year-old Sabrina D. Peeler. Ms. Peeler was lodged in the Washington County Jail on the following charges: Attempted Murder Unlawful Use of a Weapon Assault I Bail has been set at $250,000. Hemlock Lake Rescue

Sheriff's Office GLIDE, Ore.  - On Thursday, February 27, 2020, at 8:30 pm, Douglas County dispatchers received a call from a woman who stated she was stuck near Hemlock Lake and had two flat tires. Before dispatchers could obtain further information, the call was lost.  Deputies, along with Search and Rescue, were dispatched to the generalized area. Oregon State Police Fish and Wildlife Division Troopers were also in the area and responded, along with an OSP Fish & Wildlife airplane. While searching the Hemlock Lake area, the airplane was able locate a dim light on the ground and relayed that information to SAR units.   At approximately 10:30 pm, SAR and OSP Troopers made contact with the missing subject who was identified as 23 year-old Heather Lynn Schillinger and a male companion. Schillinger had an active warrant for her arrest and was taken into custody. The male was given a courtesy ride to Roseburg.  Schillinger was transported by OSP to the Doug

Fatal Crash on Hwy 126E - Lane County

Oregon State Police  On Thursday, February 27, 2020 at approximately 3:36 P.M. Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to  a two vehicle crash on Hwy 126E near milepost 13. Preliminary investigation revealed that a Harley Davidson motorcycle, operated by Kurt Rauch (65) of Springfield, was traveling eastbound on Hwy 126E and lost control while attempting to stop for traffic in front of him. Rauch left his lane of travel, crossed into the westbound lane, and collided with a Ford F350 PU operated by David Doerr (50) from Bend. Rauch sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased. Doerr was not injured in the crash. Hwy 126E was closed for three hours following the crash. OSP was assisted by ODOT, McKenzie Fire and Rescue, and Northwest Hazmat.

BODY FOUND IN WILLAMETTE RIVER; INVESTIGATORS ATTEMPTING TO IDENTIFY

Marion Co. Sheriff's Office On February 27th, 2020, at approximately 11:22 am a boater reported finding a partially decomposed body in the Willamette River near the Buena Vista Ferry.  Deputies from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene to investigate along with emergency personnel from the Jefferson Fire District.  Marine Patrol and Search and Rescue Deputies were able to coordinate the recovery of the deceased by boat.  At this time it is unknown how long the deceased, an unidentified male, has been at the location.  Investigators are working to attempt to determine the identity of the deceased; an autopsy is scheduled for 10:30 am on February 28th at the State Medical Examiner’s Office. Investigators are asking anyone who may have information about missing persons believed to have been in the area to contact Detective Bob Evarts at 503-588-8507.

HUMAN REMAINS LOCATED SOUTH OF BEND; REMAINS IDENTIFIED

Deschutes Co. Sheriff's Office The skeletel remains located on February 17th have been positively identified as belonging to Chase M. Hove of Bend.  Hove was reported as a missing person to the City of Bend Police Department in June 2017.  DCSO detectives recovered a firearm with the remains and this case is being investigated as a suicide. “Suicide is a devastating public health issue. Missing Fisherman Recovered

Newport Police Dept. On February 9, 2020, Norman Grant was reported missing.  Newport Police Officers began an investigation and learned that Grant was last seen around 7:00 p.m. on February 8, 2020.  Officers confirmed Grant was a crew member of the F/V Prolifik, which was moored at the Hallmark Fisheries on the Bay Front.  Phone records and local video confirmed Grant’s last known location was on Bay Blvd in the area of the F/V Prolifik.  Officers searched the area and arranged for a dive team from Lane County to search the area surrounding the F/V Prolifik’s mooring.  Search efforts revealed no further evidence of Grant’s location. On February 26, 2020, a fishing vessel reported hitting something beneath the water surface in the area of the Hallmark Fisheries dock.  A local diver inspected the boat and found clothing entangled in the vessel’s prop.  The diver checked the immediate area, and located a human body about 80 feet south of the Hallmark Fisheries dock. K9 Axel Tracks Down Wanted Man

Sheriff's Office   SUTHERLIN, Ore.  - Two wanted Douglas County men are in custody after they ran from law enforcement.  Shortly before 10:30 am, on Wednesday, February 26, 2020, deputies and officers from the Sutherlin Police Department went to a residence in the 100-block of South Avenue looking for 25-year old Billy James Wells and 23 year-old Johnny Lee Wells, both of Sutherlin. When deputies arrived, Johnny fled from the home on foot. A perimeter was set up to contain the area as deputies lost sight of Johnny.  Billy Wells was located hiding inside the house and was taken into custody by Sutherlin Police without incident.  Roseburg Police Department K9 Axel was dispatched to assist deputies. K9 Axel began tracking and quickly lead officers to Johnny who failed to comply with commands and was apprehended by K9 Axel until he could be taken into custody. Grants Pass Dept. of Public Safety On two different occasions, 20 year old Christopher Smith contacted a male juvenile via a social media platform. Smith invited the juvenile to his residence for the purpose of having sexual contact. Smith also exchanged illicit photographs with the juvenile, which were sexual in nature. Detectives with the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety arrested Smith on 02/25/20 on the above listed charges. Deschutes County Deputy cited in motor vehicle crash from January on North Hwy 97

Bend Police Dept. Updated Release Bend Police investigated an injury motor vehicle crash at Clausen Drive and North Hwy 97 on January 5, 2020 around 8:04 p.m. involving Deschutes County Sheriff’s Deputy Clint Baltzor.   Deputy Baltzor was traveling in the northbound lanes with his lights and siren on en route to a Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office S.W.A.T. call out in Terrebonne, when the crash occurred. A black Nissan Rogue, driven by Scott Senn was in front of Deputy Baltzor and Senn attempted to yield right but was unable to as there was a vehicle in the right lane, which caused him to yield left instead.  There was a concrete barrier on the left, which prevented Senn from yielding to the left. Deputy Baltzor’s patrol vehicle struck the Nissan Rogue, which then struck a blue/green Honda Odyssey driven by Chad Elliott.  After a thorough investigation, which included obtaining speed data from the analytical report from the Airbag Control Module located inside of the Dodge Du

The local group hosted their 44th annual banquet at the Douglas County Fairgrounds Friday evening, recognizing local offices from various law enforcement agencies throughout the county.  Renee Damas was recognized as the Douglas County Sheriff's Office 9-1-1 Dispatcher of the Year. Damas was recognized for her dedication to the citizens of the county. She was described as always having an "upbeat and positive attitude". She has worked at the Sheriff's Office since 2012.  Corporal Kelly Dwight was honored as the Corrections Deputy of the Year. Cpl. Dwight. Dwight has spent 5.5 years with the agency serving in the jail. He is known for his can-do attitude and leadership abilities. ROSEBURG POLICE OFFICER CHRIS BONEBRAKE NAMED OFFICER OF THE YEAR FOR 2019

Roseburg Police Dept. Officer Chris Bonebrake has been awarded the title of Officer of the Year for the Roseburg Police Department for 2019.  Officer Bonebrake was selected for this honor by a vote of his peers and supervisors.  He was given this award Friday night at the 44th annual Respect for Law banquet, hosted by the Roseburg Optimist Club.   Chris has been with the Roseburg Police Department since July of 2016.  Prior to that Chris worked as a deputy for the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, and he also served in the United States Marine Corps. Chris always comes to work with a great attitude and he is well liked and respected by all of his supervisors and peers.  Chris is currently a K9 handler on our patrol team, and he is paired with K9 Axel.   Please help us in congratulating Officer Chris Bonebrake!

MISSING MUSHROOM HUNTER LOCATED FRIDAY

Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office REEDSPORT, Ore.  - On Thursday, February 20, 2020, at approximately 11:00 am, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office was contacted regarding an individual who had gone mushroom picking in the Elliot State Forest off of Elk Ridge Road near Loon Lake on Wednesday, February 21st and had become lost. The lost male was identified as 65 year-old Juan Pitcher of Reedsport.  Deputies were dispatched to the area along with Search and Rescue. The terrain was very steep and rocky with thick brush and heavy timber. Search Crews searched until nightfall on Thursday without finding signs of Pitcher.  The search resumed on Friday morning. Around noon, crews began hearing a voice response from a male which came from deep within a canyon. Shortly after 1:00 pm, searchers located Pitcher who was in poor condition.
