Suspect in Paramedic Assault Identified

Portland Police Bureau  - 02/25/19  The suspect in the attack on the paramedic has been booked in the Multnomah County Detention Center on a charge of Assault in the Second Degree. He is identified as 38-year-old Jeremiah James Ray. ###ORIGINAL MESSAGE BELOW### On Monday, February 25, 2019 at 1:10 P.M., Central Precinct officers were dispatched to a medical assist call to the area of Southwest 5th Avenue and Southwest Sherman Street. Medics were requesting emergency police response. When officers arrived, they found a paramedic with non-life threatening injuries, including knife wounds. A knife was recovered at the scene (PHOTO). Officers were told the suspect had run off, but he was soon located nearby and officers arrested him. Paramedics reported to officers that the suspect was not a patient. ODOT: SW Oregon Mon. 25th, 03:03 PM I-5 traffic northbound is moving again at the MP 172 back-up, south of Cottage Grove. ODOT and utility crews are working to remove downed line across the southbound lanes. No ETO but it should be soon.  U.S. 101 is closed at MP 343, 12 miles north of Brookings due to sunken grade. No ETO. No detour.  Lowering snow levels are expected to lower tonight to the Rogue Valley floor. ODOT: SW Oregon Mon. 25th, 11:33 AM Winter travel conditions worsen as snow continues to fall, especially in Douglas County.  Travel is strongly discouraged, especially on the I-5 corridor in Douglas County. Crews are working along with utility crews to remove downed power lines.  The following closures are in effect:  All lanes of I-5 - both NB and SB- between Glendale and Cottage Grove (MP 80- 174) due to heavy snow, downed trees and powerlines.  Oregon 42S between Coquille and Bandon due to a landslide (MP 9)  Oregon 138 West between Sutherlin and Elkton (MP 11-24)  Oregon 38 west of Elkton between MP 29-37  U.S. 101 south of Bandon at Four Mile (MP 282)  Oregon 138 East between MP 17 and 60 (just east of Glide to West Toketee)  Expect delays due to small slides on Oregon 42 in Coos County  Drivers should be prepared for winter driving and expect significant delays on southwest Oregon highways.  Monitor conditions at Tripcheck....

The Sheriff's Office and Douglas County Government urge residents to remain home and not to drive unless absolutely necessary. Emergency services have been extremely busy responding to incidents as a result of the weather. Additionally, the Douglas County Public Works Division has been working diligently to keep major roadways open and remove hazards. Single vehicle fatal crash on Interstate 84 - Malheur County

Oregon State Police  - 02/24/19  On Saturday, February 23, 2019 at approximately 6:25 P.M. Oregon State Police and emergency personnel responded to the report of a single vehicle crash on Interstate 84 near milepost 371. Preliminary investigation reveals that a 1999 Plymouth Van, operated by Domingo Hernandez (29) of Caldwell, ID. was westbound when the vehicle went into the median, across the eastbound lanes, and down an embankment. Hernandez sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. OSP was assisted by Ontario Fire and Rescue, Treasure Valley Paramedics, and ODOT.

Oregon State Police  - 02/24/19  On Saturday February 23, 2019 at approximately 5:30 P.M. Law Enforcement personnel were called to the Red Robin Restaurant in Roseburg, OR on the report of an attempted carjacking. The suspect or suspects were not able to steal the vehicle and fled in his original vehicle. Roseburg Police Department was able to take one suspect into custody from this initial criminal act, who was left behind.  He has been identified as Jose Lopez-Jovel (31) from El Salvador. He has been lodged at the Douglas County Jail on warrants of fugitive from another state (Utah). Law Enforcement located the suspect vehicle and the vehicle attempted to elude southbound on Interstate 5. During the pursuit, the suspect shot a firearm several times and struck a Commercial Motor Vehicle, a passenger car (striking the occupied child seat inside) and an Oregon State Police patrol car disabling it. Fatal vehicle crash on Interstate 5 in Salem - Marion County

Oregon State Police  - 02/23/19  On Saturday, February 23, 2019 at approximately 5:00 A.M. Oregon State Police and emergency personnel responded to the report of a crash on Interstate 5 near milepost 257. Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2003 Kia Rio, operated by Jacob Bowlsby (20) of Gresham, lost control and came to a stop in the middle of the freeway.  A 1997 Honda Civic, operated by Oscar Aguilar Esparza (20) of Salem, was southbound and collided with the Kia Rio. Bowlsby was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Aguilar Esparza was treated for injuries sustained in the crash and was then arrested for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants. Investigation is continuing. Oregon State Police was assisted by the Marion County Sheriff's Office, Salem Fire Department, and ODOT.

Stranded Snowmobile riders assisted in Bend Watershed

Deschutes Co. Sheriff's Office  - 02/23/19 On February 22, 2019, at approximately 1840 hours, 911 Dispatch received a call from David MacIssac regarding two stuck snowmobile riders. MacIssac, and other people had been riding with the two earlier in the day and had agreed to meet them in the parking lot of Kapka, as the two were going to ride off trail. MacIssac received a call from his friends who told MacIssac they were stuck in a canyon and could not get out. MacIssac was told by Dispatch to have his friends call 911.  911 received a call from one of the stuck snowmobile riders, Aaron De Moisey and obtained GPS coordinates. The area of the two snowmobile riders was in the watershed, along Bridge Creek Trail.  Deschutes County Search and Rescue Volunteers were requested to assist the two snowmobile riders. DUII Related Crash on Hillcrest Road

Medford Police Dept.  - 02/23/19  On Saturday, February 23rd at about 12:32 am, officers from the Medford Police Department along with Medford Fire Department personnel responded to the report of a single vehicle accident on Hillcrest Road near Evenbrook Road. There were five total occupants in the vehicle, two of which had to be extricated by Medford Fire personnel. Both of these passengers were transported to local area hospitals with serious, but non-life threatening injuries. The driver and two other passengers suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash. Members of the Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction team (STAR) were called to the scene to conduct the accident investigation. The investigation revealed that 19 year-old Oscar Espinoza Jr was operating a white 1993 Lincoln Mark 8 sedan eastbound on Hillcrest Road at a high rate of speed and lost control, leaving the roadway. Vehicle Pursuit After Suspect Rams Police Car

Medford Police Dept.  - 02/23/19  On Friday February 22nd at about 8:30pm, a Medford Police Officer attempted contact with a male subject in a vehicle in the parking lot of the Northgate Shopping Center near Chipotle. The vehicle, a silver Ford Expedition, was being operated by a subject (Michael Macabe) known to have felony warrants out of the California Department of Corrections. The Medford Police Officer parked his vehicle behind the silver Expedition in order to block it in but as he attempted to contact the driver, the suspect put the car in reverse and slammed into the Medford Police patrol vehicle and nearly struck the officer. The suspect then recklessly fled through the parking lot and through the landscaping out towards the intersection of Hwy 62/Hwy 99. Other Medford Police officers in the area located the suspect vehicle driving recklessly on Hwy 99 and a vehicle pursuit began, northbound on Hwy 99. One person dies in crash on Hwy 6 - Washington County

Oregon State Police  - 02/23/19 On Saturday,  February 23, 2019 at approximately 7:13 A.M. Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of a single vehicle crash on Hwy 6 near milepost 42. Preliminary investigation indicates that a black 2012 Kia Soul was eastbound on Hwy 6 when for unknown reasons it drifted off the roadway and struck a large tree.  The vehicle was occupied by 5 teenagers. Four were transported to Portland area hospitals.  One passenger sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Hwy 6 was closed for 4 hours following the crash. OSP was assisted by Washington County Sheriffs Office, Banks Fire Department, and Forest Grove Fire Department. Names of the involved are not being released at this time.

Deputies Arrest Aloha Man Who Shot From Vehicle While Driving Impaired

Sheriff's Office  - 02/22/19 On Thursday, February 21, 2019, at 9:17 p.m., Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to multiple reports of gunfire heard in the area of Southwest Farmington Road and Southwest 192nd Avenue in Aloha. As deputies were flooding the area to search, dispatch continued to receive reports of additional instances of gunfire. Many of those reports came from community members of Pine Ridge Mobile Park, located at 6900 Southwest 195th Avenue. At 9:38 p.m., deputies located the suspect outside his residence at the mobile park. The suspect was highly intoxicated and had just crashed the SUV he was driving into his own vehicle parked in the driveway. Based on witness accounts, deputies believe the suspect fired multiple rounds, during multiple instances, indiscriminately into the air while driving impaired around the neighborhood. The Oregon City Police Department arrested two suspects for armed robbery

Oregon City Police Dept.  - 02/22/19 Last night, at about 9:15 pm, officers were dispatched to an armed robbery at Rite Aid located inside the Oregon City Shopping Center, 1900 McLoughlin Blvd.  A male, later identified as 21-year-old Austin Keever-Nyberg walked to the pharmacy counter, was armed with a knife and jumped the counter.  He ordered employee’s to the ground and then went to the back of the pharmacy where he stole medication and then fled the store.  As he exited the store, Mr. Keever-Nyberg threatened another employee with the knife.  Mr. Keever-Nyberg then fled on foot toward Main Street.  No employee's were injured. Responding officers set up a perimeter and a K-9 search was started.  Mr. Keever-Nyberg returned to the shopping center and ran to a vehicle that was parked in the parking lot.  This vehicle was driven by 19-year-old Jacob Petersen.  Mr. Petersen attempted to leave the shopping center in his vehicle but officers...

Oregon State Police  - 02/21/19  The Oregon State Police Fish & Wildlife Division is asking for the public’s help in identifying suspect (s) involved in the killing of a cow elk in the SW Santiam unit on Tuesday, February 19, 2019.  There is an authorized cow elk hunt occurring at this time, but the elk was  killed on private property  and a large amount of meat was  left to waste.   The front shoulders and neck meat were not taken.  The cow elk was shot on private property off of Larwood Drive near Scio, OR. School shooting statement on social media

Deschutes Co. Sheriff's Office  - 02/20/19 On 02/19/2019 at approximately 2050hrs, deputies with the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office were notified of a video post on social media that referenced a possible shooting at a school.  The post originated from a student at LaPine Middle School and quickly spread throughout the community. Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office deputies spoke with several students regarding the post and one arrest has been made in this case.  This is still an ongoing investigation.  The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office recognizes the safety concerns that parents may have after an event of this nature.  There will be an increase in the law enforcement presence at the area schools.  The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office is a full service agency that oversees the adult jail, provides patrol, criminal investigations, civil process and search and rescue operations. McMinnville Police Dept.  - 02/19/19  On February 15, 2019, at about 10:15 pm, McMinnville Police Officers contacted two vehicles on a traffic stop in 2000 block of South Hwy 99W.  One of the vehicles stopped was a red Dodge Neon driven by Gary Steele.  During the traffic stop, Officer Maierhofer deployed his narcotics detection canine Tucker.  Canine Tucker indicated the presence of a controlled substance was contained within the vehicle.  A search of the vehicle was conducted.  The search yielded a total of approximately 36.8 grams of methamphetamine, 1.6 grams of heroin, packaging materials, a scale, and a smoking device. Lebanon Firefighters Battle Large Shop Fire

Lebanon Fire District  - 02/19/19 The Lebanon Fire District responded to the report of a structure fire at 1046 F Street in Lebanon. Crews arrived on scene to a large shop fully involved. The initial incident commander called for a second alarm to request additional units from neighboring fire districts. Crews immediately began extinguishment efforts. Exposure control hose lines were setup to stop the spread of fire into the office building approximately five feet away. Explosions could be heard do to the storage of acetylene, propane and gas tanks. There were numerous cars and a forklift that were parked outside of the building. A ladder truck was used to knock down a bulk of the fire and allowed crews to get a quick knockdown. The fire was brought under control in approximately one hour. The fire was contained to the building of origin. The district responded with five engines, a ladder truck, medic unit, and four staff vehicles. A total of 27 firefighters were on scene.  ...

Missing Mother and Child Located at Silver Falls State Park

Marion Co. Sheriff's Office  - 02/18/19  Early this morning, around 3:00 a.m., deputies with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and troopers with the Oregon State Police responded to a call for help at Silver Falls State Park.  Joshua Dixsen, age 25, of Salem called to report his girlfriend and her 3 year old child were lost somewhere inside the state park. Mr. Dixsen, his girlfriend Josie Chysm, age 24 of Salem and her three year old son left for a hike around noon on Sunday.  Sometime during the hike the family became disoriented and lost. After the sunset, the couple decided that Ms. Chysm and her son would wait under a tree while Mr. Dixsen walked out for help.   Searchers with the Marion County Search and Rescue Team responded to the area and began coordinating efforts both on foot and in vehicles.  At 8:30 a.m., ground searchers located Ms. Chysm and her son along the Rim Trail inside of the park. Skier Dies on Mt. Ashland *UPDATE*

Jackson Co. Sheriff's Office  - 02/18/19  An autopsy performed Monday, February 18, 2019, revealed Johnathan Patrick Likeke Walker, 23, died of suffocation following a skiing accident on Mt. Ashland on Saturday. During the investigation, deputies learned that Walker was skiing in a group of three Mt. Ashland Ski Patrol members.  Walker was the last of the group to descend the hill.  The others looked back to find that Walker had skied into a tree well and had become trapped upside down in the snow.  They climbed back up the steep hill and worked to free Walker from the snow, but he was not breathing. Efforts to resuscitate Walker by ski patrol members, as well as by medical personnel at the ski area, continued for approximately two hours.

Oregon State Police Seeks Public Assistance on Deceased Female Found North of Road's End in Lincoln County

Oregon State Police  - 02/17/19 6:32 PM On February 17, 2019 at approximately 5:00 PM, Oregon State Police, with the assistance of US Coast Guard and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, recovered the body of a deceased female in the ocean, in a cove, just north of “God’s Thumb”. The female is described as a white adult female with long dark brown hair. She was approximately 5’7” and 190-200 pounds. The Oregon State Police is continuing its investigation as to the specifics of her death but we are asking for the public’s assistance for information on her identity. If anyone has any information on a recent missing female, matching this description, please call (800) 452-7888 and reference case number SP 19-058230. Detective Carla Urbigkeit is the lead investigator. No photos are available or additional information is available at this time.

Man Dies Two Days After Single Vehicle Crash Into a Tree

Washington Co. Sheriff's Office  - 02/17/19  On Friday, February 15, 2019, at 6 p.m., Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a single vehicle crash at NW Bronson Road and NW Roseburg Terrace in the community of Bethany.  A witness reported seeing a car leave the road and hit a tree.  Responding emergency crews had to extricate the driver, 27-year-old Zachary Benjamin of Hillsboro.  Mr. Benjamin was taken to a Portland hospital with life-threatening injuries.  On Sunday, February 17, Mr. Benjamin died at the hospital. The Washington County Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team responded to assist with the investigation.  Deputies do not yet have a suspected cause for the crash which remains under investigation.

Skier Dies on Mt. Ashland

Jackson Co. Sheriff's Office  - 02/17/19 Update, 2/17/19 at 10:35 a.m. The decedent in Saturday's incident on Mt. Ashland was identified as Johnathan Patrick Likeke Walker, 23.  Walker lived and worked locally, but lived previously in Yakima, Wash.  The autopsy has been postponed until Monday. Ashland Ski Patrol. On February 16, 2019, at 1:31 p.m., dispatch received a 911 call reporting a skiing accident on the south side of the mountain, outside the boundaries of the Mt. Ashland Ski Area.  Jackson County Sheriff's Office (JCSO) deputies responded to the ski area, along with personnel from Ashland Fire & Rescue. Deputies learned the victim was among a group of Mt. Theft From Vehicle, Suspect Arrested

Bend Police Dept.  - 02/16/19  On Saturday, February 16, 2019 at approximately 0654 hrs. 911 dispatch received a call from a third party reporting that they had just witnessed an unknown suspect break into a parked vehicle, remove items from within, and then flee the area on foot.  Bend Police responded to the scene and conducted an extensive area check.  Although the suspect was not located at this time, a purse belonging to the victim was located along the roadway. As the investigation continued, Bend Police Officers learned the victims credit cards were being unlawfully used at two seperate retail establishments in Bend.  Follow-up investigation, which included the reviewing of surveillance video where the victims credit cards were used, revealed a detailed description of a suspect in this case. More than 300 Firefighters Attend Weekend Training in Salem

Dept. of Public Safety Standards and Training  - 02/16/19  More than 300 career and volunteer firefighters from more than 100 fire agencies (city and tribal fire departments, fire districts, and wildland) throughout the state are at the Oregon Public Safety Academy in Salem this weekend for the State's annual Winter Fire School. This is the 16th annual Winter Fire School hosted by the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) at the Oregon Public Safety Academy 4190 Aumsville Highway in Salem. Eleven classes are being offered by the National Fire Academy, DPSST, and the City of Dallas Fire & EMS Department.
