Family Offering Additional Reward to Solve Homicide of Andrew Hathaway

Portland Police Bureau  - 01/23/19  The Portland Police Bureau and the Hathaway family are asking for the public's help to solve the homicide of 28-year-old Andrew Patrick Hathaway. The Hathaway family has pledged a reward of up to $2,500 for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in this case. This is in addition to a Crime Stoppers of Oregon offer of a reward of up to $2,500 cash to help solve this case. This investigation started on Wednesday, September 5, 2018, at 1:01 a.m., when Portland Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the report of a vehicle fire in the 6200 block of North Marine Drive. As firefighters battled the car fire, they located what was believed to be a deceased person inside the vehicle, which was a white 2003 Chevrolet Impala. Portland Police Bureau Homicide detectives responded to the scene to conduct a death investigation. Student Charged After Making School Threat

Roseburg Police Dept.  - 01/23/19  On Friday, January 18th, 2019 a threat was found written on a bathroom stall at Fremont Middle School in Roseburg.  The threat indicated an act of violence was going to occur on another date.  During a subsequent investigation by school staff and a Roseburg Police Department School Resource Officer, a 14 year old female was identified as the person who wrote the threat. The juvenile was interviewed and ultimately said she had done it in an attempt to get school canceled, and that she had no intention of hurting anyone.  She was taken into custody and lodged at the Douglas County Juvenile Detention Center for Disorderly Conduct in the First Degree and Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree.

Passenger Dies in Single-Vehicle Crash on Hillsboro Highway

Washington Co. Sheriff's Office  - 01/22/19  On Tuesday, January 22, 2019, at 12:30 a.m., Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a single-vehicle crash in the 3500 block of Southwest Hillsboro Highway in unincorporated Washington County. During the initial investigation, deputies learned that a white 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse was traveling northbound on Southwest Hillsboro Highway when it left the roadway and struck a tree. A 21-year-old male passenger was ejected from the vehicle during the crash and pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver was transported to a local trauma hospital with apparent non-life-threatening injuries. A second passenger was treated at the scene. Excessive speed is believed to be a factor in this crash and the investigation is ongoing. The inter-agency  Washington County Crash Analyst Reconstruction Team  is investigating. Sheriff's Office  - 01/22/19  UPDATE 5 (Jan. 22, 2019, 2:48 p.m.) -- CAUSE OF DEATH The Oregon State Medical Examiner has completed the autopsies of the four victims in the Jan. 19 quadruple homicide.  The four victims died of homicidal violence. Weapons used in the murders include an axe and knives. Sharp-force trauma was the cause of death for three of the victims, and a combination of blunt-force trauma and sharp-force trauma was the cause of death for the male victim, Jerry Bremer. The investigation continues. Detectives continue to process evidence and conduct interviews. This includes pending interviews of the involved deputies and construction of a detailed timeline of events leading up to the murders and officer-involved shooting.

Track Coach Convicted of Sex Abuse in Case Involving Student Athlete

Washington Co. District Attorney's Office  - 01/22/19  HILLSBORO, Ore.- On January 18, 2018, Branden Michael Helms was convicted of Second Degree Sex Abuse by a Coach. He was sentenced to 13 months in prison. The case against Helms was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Chris Lewman and was overseen by Judge Janelle Wipper. The investigation into Helms began in June of 2018 after the 16-year-old victim’s mother witnessed inappropriate contact between her daughter and Helms. Helms, who was 25-years-old, was working as an assistant track coach at Sunset High School at the time. The victim was a student athlete and was being coached by Helms. Detective Madalyn Brown of the Beaverton Police Department soon took over the investigation. With permission from the victim and her parents, Detective Brown began scouring the victim’s cell phone for digital evidence. She found extensive text message conversations between the victim and Helms, many of which were sexual in nature. Det...

Man Sentenced to 200 Months in Prison for Sexual Abuse of a 9-year-old Girl

Washington Co. District Attorney's Office  - 01/22/19 HILLSBORO, Ore.- On January 18, 2019, a Washington County jury found David Allan Detgen guilty of three counts of First Degree Sexual Abuse. The case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Chris Lewman and overseen by Judge Ricardo Menchaca. Detgen was sentenced to 200 months in prison for his crimes. Hillsboro Police first began investigating a case of possible abuse in March of 2018, after the nine-year-old victim reported to school staff that she had been touched inappropriately by her mother’s live-in boyfriend whom she later identified as Detgen. Detective Robert Rookhuÿzen of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office soon took over the investigation. In conjunction with the school counselor, the Oregon Department of Human Services and experts from CARES Northwest, investigators determined Detgen sexually assaulted the girl on several occasions. Transient Sentenced to 20 Months in Prison for Sexual Assault of an Animal

District Attorney's Office  - 01/22/19 HILLSBORO, Ore.- On January 18, 2019, Washington County Judge Oscar Garcia found Kenneth Lijah Duyck guilty of Sexual Assault of an Animal and Unlawful Use of a Motor Vehicle. Duyck was sentenced to 20 months in prison by Judge Garcia. Deputy District Attorney Sabina Khachaturova prosecuted the case against Duyck. Detective Jim Berning began investigating the case after the Washington County Sheriff’s Office received a call from the owner of a horse stable located in Hillsboro. The owner suspected someone tampered with a horse in her barn and asked authorities to investigate. Detective Berning spoke with the owner and nearby neighbors and quickly developed Duyck as a person of interest in the case. As the investigation continued, the owner’s daughter, who is a veterinarian, also began looking into the case. Residential Structure Fire - 116 NE Athena Avenue

Roseburg Fire Department  - 01/20/19  At 4:40 p.m. on January 20, 2019, the Roseburg Fire Department was dispatched to a residential structure fire at 116 NE Athena Avenue. The fire was reported by a nearby neighbor.  The neighbor stated smoke was coming out of the residential structure with no flames seen.  The neighbor reported an occupant was inside the structure and unable to exit the residence. Firefighters arrived on scene to find smoke billowing from the residential structure. Upon arrival, firefighters entered the structure with knowledge of a possible rescue.  Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and were able to protect the surrounding structures from damage. Unfortunately, the resident of the structure, 76 year old Elaine Hamlin and two of her cats did not survive the fire.   Next of kin has been notified. Reported Shooting In Roseburg

Roseburg Police Dept.  - 01/20/19  On Sunday, January 20, 2019 at approximately 1500 hours the Roseburg Police Department responded to the report of a possible shooting under the Stewart Parkway bridge near Harvard Avenue. The incident reportedly happened in a homeless camp in the area and when Officers arrived they found two victims, an adult male and female, who claimed they were shot.  The male had severe head injuries and the female had a leg injury. Officers set up a perimeter, and the area was cleared, but no one else was found in the camp.  During a subsequent investigation it was determined the firearms were BB or pellet guns that appeared real.  The investigation also revealed there was a disturbance between several people in the camp, and during that disturbance the injured male was struck over the head with one of the BB guns, and then he fell and struck his head causing further injury.  The male was transported to Mercy Hospital b...

Single vehicle fatal crash on Hwy 42 - Douglas County

Oregon State Police  - 01/20/19  On Saturday, January 19, 2019, at approximately 10:20 P.M. Oregon State Police and emergency personnel responded to the report of a single vehicle crash on Hwy 42 near milepost 65. Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2003 BMW 325i, operated by Sharp Slaughter (21) of Roseburg, was traveling westbound on Hwy 42 when for unknown reasons veered off the road and struck a power pole. Slaughter sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. A passenger in the BMW, Matthew Mendoza (22) from Roseburg, was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. The eastbound lane of Hwy 42 was closed for about three hours following the crash. OSP was assisted by Tenmile Rural Fire, ODOT, Winston PD, and the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

Portland Police Bureau  - 01/20/19 On Sunday January 20, 2019, at 2:15 a.m., Central Precinct officers responded to Southeast Grand Avenue and Washington Street on the report that a driver in a red Porsche 911 crashed into a building and the driver was attempting to run away from the scene. Officers arrived in the area and, aided by information from witnesses, located and arrested the driver in the area. During the investigation, officers determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol. 30-year-old Vasiliy Kutsar was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on charges of Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants (DUII), Reckless Driving, Recklessly Endangering Another Person (three counts), and Failure to Perform the Duties of a Driver (Hit and Run). Barlow Rd.  Upon arrival, deputies were involved in a deadly force situation in which the homicide suspect was killed. Investigators have determined that there are 4 homicide victims and 2 survivors. The investigation is continuing. TRAFFIC ALERT: S. Barlow Rd. will remain closed between HWY 211 and S. Schneider Rd. for an undetermined amount of time, believed to be at least the next 12-24 hours. 

One person dies in three vehicle crash on Hwy 211 - Clackamas County

Oregon State Police  - 01/19/19 On Friday, January 18, 2019, at approximately 5:45 P.M. Oregon State Police and emergency personnel responded to a three vehicle crash on Hwy 211 near milepost 3. Preliminary investigation reveals that a Honda Accord was southbound on Hwy 211 when they lost control of their vehicle and slid sideways into the northbound lane.  A Chevrolet Van, operated by Illia Burigin (27) of Canby, was northbound and unable to avoid the Accord and the vehicles collided .  Moments after the collision, a Ford Contour, operated by Steven Furlow (28) of Mulino, was unable to avoid the initial crash and crashed into the Chevrolet Van. The operator of the Honda Accord sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The name will be released after OSP can confirm that notifications have been made. Suspect Arrested in Connection with the 2009 Homicide of Nancy Bergeson

Portland Police Bureau  - 01/19/19  On Friday January 18, 2019, Portland Police Bureau Homicide detectives arrested 28-year-old Christopher Alexander Williamson in connection with the 2009 homicide of a prominent Portland defense attorney, 57-year-old Nancy Bergeson. This investigation started on November 24, 2009 at approximately 3:00 p.m., when Ms. Bergeson was found deceased in her home at 4146 Southwest Hamilton Street. An autopsy performed by the Oregon State Medical Examiner's Office revealed that Ms. Bergeson died of homicidal violence. At the time, there was no suspect information and very few clues as to what circumstances led to Ms. Bergeson's death. Portland Police Bureau Homicide detectives worked tirelessly over the past nine years, investigating every lead. Attempt to Elude Suspect Arrested After K9 Track

Beaverton Police Dept.  - 01/18/19 On January 18, 2019 at 2:38 p.m. an alert community member called 911 to report a suspected DUII driver.  The community member reported the driver was driving erratically, endangering the other motoring traffic.  Beaverton Police officers located the suspected DUII driver near SW Murray/SW 6th in Beaverton.  A short pursuit occurred after the driver refused to pull over.  The driver ran from his car, leaving it in neutral.  The suspect’s car, a 1996 white Chevrolet Caviler, rolled backwards and struck the patrol vehicle causing minor damage.  BPD K9 handler Officer Bastinelli, his K9 partner Rizzo and numerous other officers immediately started searching for the suspect.  On scene investigations revealed the suspect was 23-year-old Emitt Bannister, who resides in unincorporated Washington County.  Mr. Bannister had a misdemeanor warrant out of Umatilla County for a parole violation regarding an Assault...

Thefts from vehicles and recovered stolen property

Bend Police Dept.  - 01/18/19 Over the past couple months, the Intelligence-Led Policing(ILP) Unit noticed a pattern of vehicles being broken into in the area of NW College Way near NW Regency.  Property had been stolen from unlocked vehicles in this area and in different locations around Bend. Bend Police found personal property had been taken from vehicles to include credit cards, speakers, light bars, sports equipment and tools.  The vehicles were parked in parking lots and in the roadways. During the investigation, Bend Police found stolen credit cards from the thefts were used at around 25 different businesses in Bend and Redmond, with some being used at the same businesses multiple times.  Bend Police found there were a total of 36 different fraudulent credit card transactions. Emergency personnel located Donald Thomas (65) deceased inside the structure. SCHOOL THREAT DETERMINED TO BE FALSE

Roseburg Police Dept January 17th, 2019  On Wednesday, January 17th, 2019 at 11:46 A.M. The Roseburg Police Department received threats regarding a possible shooting that was threatened to occur at JoLane Middle School.  The report came from several juveniles that attend JoLane.   Those juveniles reported contact with 3 people not associated with the school, on the JoLane track just south of the school.  At least one of the juveniles reported the 3 people, a female and two males, were armed with a handgun and "assault rifles" and that the group said they were going to come back and, "shoot up the school". INCIDENT ENDS PEACEFULLY AFTER WOMAN ALLEGEDLY SHOOTS A GUN IN HER HOME

Roseburg Police Dept. January 17th, 2019  On January 17th, 2019 at approximately 0419 A.M. Roseburg Police Officers responded to a reported disturbance in the 300 block of SE Ella Street in Roseburg.  A neighbor reported seeing an adult female on a porch in that area screaming, crying, and yelling.  When Officers arrived at the residence the female was no longer on the porch, but they could see evidence that a firearm had been used.  Officers on scene heard the female from inside the residence say that she was going to get a gun and shoot them.  They spoke to other neighbors who then reported they heard what sounded like several gunshots at the residence before police arrived. Officers backed off and set up a perimeter around the residence and tried contacting the adult female, later identified as 47 year old Diana Marie Young.  During the incident we learned Young lives at the residence alone with a 14 year old son who has a severe disability....

Three Arrested After Driver Attempts to Flee Deputies in Vehicle and on Foot

Sheriff's Office  - 01/16/19  On Wednesday, January 16, 2019, at 7:43 a.m., a Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputy attempted to stop a black 2000 Honda Accord for numerous traffic violations in the 5000 block of Southwest Hillsboro Highway in unincorporated Washington County. The vehicle did not stop and turned eastbound on Southwest Burkhalter Road, and then sped up as it ran a stop sign and turned northbound onto Southwest Minter Bridge Road. The chase ended when the deputy successfully performed a pursuit intervention technique (“PIT maneuver”) in the 7400 block of Southwest Minter Bridge Road. The female driver fled on foot. Two male passengers were detained at the scene. Deputies, with the assistance of Beaverton Police K-9s Rizzo and Toa, searched the area extensively but were unable to locate the woman. Shooting Investigation Underway on McGrath Road

Sheriff's Office  - 01/16/19 On January 16, 2019 at 11:01am, deputies with the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported shooting at 64800 block of McGrath Road.  Deputies arrived to find an adult female who had been shot.  Lifesaving efforts were attempted, but the woman died at the scene. The Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team, two DCSO K9 Teams, and a DCSO patrol drone responded to the scene.  DCSO has been assisted at the scene by the Oregon State Police, Bend and Redmond Police Departments, Deschutes County District Attorney’s Office, the Bend Fire Department and the Deschutes County Road Department. There is no continued threat to the community. Man receives 6.5 year prison sentence for uploading child pornography to social media website

District Attorney's Office  - 01/16/19 Today, Multnomah County District Attorney Rod Underhill announced that 39-year-old Michael Scott Miner received a six and a half year prison sentence for being in possession of child pornography. During this investigation, law enforcement learned that the defendant used his smartphone to search for, download and duplicate numerous child pornography photos and videos. “Michael Miner then uploaded these appalling images to a social media website and onto a cloud-based network,” Multnomah County Deputy District Attorney BJ Park, who prosecuted this case, said after sentencing. “Mr. Miner also organized his child pornography files into specific folders. These pictures and videos depicted infants, toddlers and other children being raped. Texas Fugitive Arrested in Reedsport

Sheriff's Office  - 01/16/19  REEDSPORT, Ore. -  A man wanted by authorities in the state of Texas for Indecency with a Child was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon.  On Tuesday, January 16, 2019, a deputy assigned to the Reedsport Patrol Office observed a green 1996 Toyota Camry traveling northbound in the 2000-block of Highway 101 commit a minor traffic violation. The deputy initiated a traffic stop and contacted the operator of the vehicle who did not provide a drivers license or any form of identification. The male driver, later identified as 40 year-old Brian Edward Smith of Deadwood, Oregon, initially gave the deputy a false name and date of birth. Cold Exposure Death Investigation near La Pine

Deschutes Co. Sheriff's Office  - 01/14/19 On January 14, 2019, at approximately 11:45am, deputies with the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the 17600 block of Penny Court regarding a male that had been located laying in the driveway.  Penny Court is a dead end street in the Newberry Estates subdivision NE of La Pine. The first deputy arrived at the address nine minutes later and found the male cold to the touch and beyond medical help. The initial investigation into the death has determined Mr. Campbell likely arrived at his residence yesterday evening.  Evidence at the scene shows he had slipped on the ice and fell upon exiting his vehicle.  Mr. Campbell was unable to get to his feet and began crawling towards an area of the driveway with less ice, where he could get back onto his feet.  Mr. Campbell ultimately was not able to get up and likely succumbed to cold exposure. Medford Police Dept.  - 01/14/19  On January 11th, 2019 the Medford Police Department investigated a daytime residential burglary on Sunrise Avenue.  Video surveillance from a church in the area showed two male suspects leaving the area of the burglary carrying stolen property and getting into a mid-90’s green Honda Accord, that was driven by a third person.  The victim had several thousands of dollars in jewelry and other personal property stolen.  The suspects ransacked the residence and damaged a door during the burglary.  On January 12th, 2019 the Medford Police Department investigated a second daytime residential burglary that occurred on Hybiscus Street.  The victim reported numerous firearms, jewelry and other personal property stolen.   Video surveillance from a neighboring residence showed two male suspects approach the victim’s residence on foot.  The suspects appeared to be the same two individuals from the incident on th...

Lincoln City Police arrest the "Weed Man" on a Lincoln County warrant

Lincoln City Police  - 01/14/19  On Monday, January 14, 2019 at about 11:30 AM, Lincoln City Police Officers arrested 53 year-old Edward P. Biggar of Toledo Oregon, AKA the “Weed Man” on an outstanding warrant issued out of the Lincoln County Circuit Court. Lincoln City Police officers became aware that a valid misdemeanor warrant for the arrest of Mr. Biggar had been issued by the Lincoln County Circuit Court. The charge listed on the warrant was Stalking and carried a $15,000.00 bail amount. Mr. Biggar is known as the “Weed Man” because of the green marijuana leaf covered suit he wears and the high flying sign acrobatics he does while advertising for marijuana shops. Lincoln City Officer’s Tolzman and Goodman were on patrol in the south 3200 block of Hwy 101 when they saw Mr. Biggar out doing his street advertising for a local marijuana shop. Lincoln City Police  - 01/13/19  On Saturday, January 12, 2019 at about 1:08 PM, Lincoln City Police Officers responded to a report of a vehicle vs pedestrian motor vehicle crash in the area of Hwy 101 and NW 14th Street. When officers arrived on scene they found a woman and her 18 month old child had been struck by a vehicle while in a crosswalk on Highway 101. The child had sustained some obvious injuries to her face. Emergency Medical personnel from North Lincoln Fire & Rescue and Pacific West Ambulance arrived on scene and began medical treatment of the woman and child. The subsequent investigation determined that the woman, identified as 21 year-old Anayely Barbonio-Gutierrez of Lincoln City, was pushing her 18 moth old child in a stroller across Highway 101, from the west to east, in the crosswalk at the intersection of NW 14th Street. Heroin Found During Body Scan at Yamhill County Jail

Yamhill Co. Sheriff's Office  - 01/12/19  Additional drug charges were added to a McMinnville woman Thursday night when heroin was found hidden in her body during a body scan at the Yamhill County Correctional Facility. Amberann Renee Lane, 31, of McMinnville was originally charged by McMinnville Police for Theft in the First Degree and Possession of Heroin. During the booking process Lane was put through the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office body scanner which located an additional gram of heroin and two plastic bags inside her.  Additional crimes of Supplying Contraband and Unlawful Possession of Heroin were added to her charges.  Lane is currently being held on $50,000 bail.  “People are beginning to realize there are no free passes when you try to smuggle drugs into our facility” said Sheriff Tim Svenson. “Our body scanner is doing exactly what I intended to do. Public's Help Needed to Identify Bank Robbery Suspect

Washington Co. Sheriff's Office  - 01/12/19  On Saturday, January 12, 2019, at 11:09 a.m., Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a robbery at Chase Bank at 4732 NW  Bethany Blvd. Bank employees reported an unidentified male came up to the counter and used a note to demand money. The suspect left the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash. Deputies were on scene almost immediately and extensively searched the area but were not able to locate the suspect. The suspect is described as a white male in his 40s, about 5’8” tall, medium build, with short facial hair and glasses. He was wearing light blue jeans, a black coat, and a beanie hat with black, red, and white stripes. Detectives responded to the scene and notified the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Single vehicle fatal crash on Hwy 260 - Josephine County

Oregon State Police  - 01/12/19 On Saturday, January 12, 2019 at approximately 2:35 A.M. Oregon State Police and emergency personnel responded to the report of a single vehicle crash on Hwy 260 near milepost 11 in Josephine County. Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2006 Acura SUV, operated by Jason Barker (38) of Grants Pass, failed to negotiate a curve, drove off the roadway, and struck a tree.  Barker sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.  Alcohol is being investigated as a possible factor in the crash. Homicide Investigation Underway After Two Found Deceased

Washington Co. Sheriff's Office  - 01/11/19  On Friday, January 11, 2019, 5:16 p.m., Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a residence at the Pine Ridge Mobile Park, located at 6900 Southwest 195th Avenue in Aloha. A woman reported finding two unresponsive adults. Deputies arrived and located a deceased male and female inside the home. Detectives from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Unit responded and are leading the investigation. They are being assisted on scene by Forensic Science Unit personnel. Investigators do not believe there is a danger to the public. Additional information, including identifications of the deceased, will be released at a later date.

Woodburn Man Arrested on New Sex Charges, Additional Victims Sought

Washington Co. Sheriff's Office  - 01/11/19  Washington County Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Unit detectives continue to investigate 28-year-old Jorge Serrano of Woodburn. Since his arrest on December 7, 2018, detectives have identified and interviewed six additional victims, including underage females who live out of state. On Thursday afternoon, with the assistance of Woodburn Police, detectives arrested Mr. Serrano at his Woodburn home. Mr. Serrano is being held at the Marion County Jail without bail on charges of first-degree rape, first-degree encouraging child sex abuse, second-degree sex abuse, and using a child in display of sexually explicit conduct. Additional charges are likely as the investigation continues. Investigators have learned that Mr. Serrano used social media to meet women, including  underage girls, some of whom detectives have been unable to identify.
