Man Arrested After Hit And Run Incidents, Pursuit
At 5:02 p.m. on March 30, two hit and run incidents had been called in regarding a Hyundai Sonata and other callers reported reckless driving.
A Eugene Police officer spotted the vehicle on southbound River Road just north of Horn Lane. He initiated a traffic stop and got out and recognized the driver as 37-year-old Andrew Todd Hampton. The officer had had custody of Hampton for several hours at the hospital after a previous reckless driving incident in February 2025.
As the officer got close on foot, Hampton left the scene and began driving at high speed through the residential neighborhood.
Other officers spotted Hampton at Cornwall and Northwest Expressway. Hampton went through a solid red light at Irving Road and Northwest Expressway, and again on Hwy. 99 continuing southbound. He was observed going towards Jerry's. Officers forced him to a stop and pinned his vehicle in the busy Jerry’s parking lot. Hampton jumped out and began running northbound through the parking lot despite orders to stop. An officer chased him down and took him to the ground. He was taken into custody without further incident and transported to Lane County Jail on charges including Two counts of Hit and Run, three counts of Elude by Vehicle, Reckless Endangering, and three counts of Reckless Driving.
