On December 26, 2024, at approximately 5:59 p.m., Medford Police Department (MPD) patrol officers responded to a report of a stabbing in the 1000 block of Beatty Street in Medford.
Upon arrival, officers located a male victim slumped on the front porch, suffering from severe lacerations to his head, neck, and arms. A significant amount of blood was present at the scene. Officers immediately rendered aid to control the bleeding until Medford Fire and Mercy Flights personnel arrived to provide advanced medical care. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery.
The victim’s female roommate, who witnessed the attack, informed officers that the suspect was known to both her and the victim as “Marzelle.” According to the witness, Marzelle entered the residence unannounced, retrieved a sword from a wall display, and launched an unprovoked attack on the male victim. The suspect then attempted to attack her but fled the residence when she escaped to another room.
Patrol officers were provided with a description of the suspect and began an area search. Medford Fire personnel reported seeing an individual matching the description near Jackson and Biddle Roads. Officers responded and, with additional information from bystanders, located the suspect at Riverside Avenue and 10th Street. He was taken into custody without incident.
MPD Detectives assumed control of the investigation. During an interview, the suspect admitted to the attack, stating his intent was to kill the victim due to a prior disagreement in which the victim told him he was no longer welcome at the residence.
The victim remains in stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
