DEPUTIES INVESTIGATE UNFOUNDED THREAT AT DOUGLAS COUNTY COURTHOUSE

Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office ROSEBURG, Ore.   - On Tuesday, August 27, 2024, shortly before the end of the business day, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office investigated a reported threat at the Douglas County Courthouse and Justice Building Complex.  Out of an abundance of caution and in coordination with County Officials, the Courthouse and Justice Buildings were closed early, and all occupants were sent home for the day.  The incident has since been determined to not be credible and remains under further investigation.  The Courthouse and Justice Building complex will re-open tomorrow, Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at its normal time and all business will resume as normal.  No further information will be released at this time.  More From Southern Oregon Scanner

UPDATE: BODY OF MAN WHO DROWNED AT DIAMOND LAKE RECOVERED

Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office DIAMOND LAKE, Ore. -  On Friday, August 23, 2024, the body of Chimanbai Patel was located at Diamond Lake.  At 7:43 a.m., 9-1-1 dispatchers received information from a member of the public they had been walking their dog on the west side of the lake when they observed the body in water. Marine Deputies, who were already on their way to continue searching for Patel responded to the scene. Upon their arrival, deputies recovered the body and confirmed it to be Patel.  The Douglas County Medical Examiner's Office responded and began a death investigation. Currently, there are no indications of foul play. Patel's family was notified of the recovery.  The Douglas County Sheriff's Office would like to thank the Klamath County Sheriff's Office, Oregon State Police, Diamond Lake Resort, United States Forest Service, Douglas County Search and Rescue, Douglas County Dive Team and all of the community members who assisted in the search.            M

LAST REMAINING FIRE EVACUATION NOTICE IN DOUGLAS COUNTY CANCELLED

Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office DIAMOND LAKE, Ore. -  Effective at 9:00 am on Friday, August 23, 2024, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, working in partnership with fire managers, has cancelled the last remaining evacuation notice for the Potter Fire which is managed by the Diamond Complex. The cancelation was facilitated by fire suppression efforts. As a result of the cancellation, there are no current evacuation notices anywhere in Douglas County.  More From Southern Oregon Scanner

Medford Police Arrest Suspect in Armed Coffee Stand Robbery

Medford Police Dept.   At about 8:50 PM on Tuesday, August 20, the Medford Police Department responded to the report of an armed robbery that had just occurred at the Dutch Bro’s Coffee stand located at Crater Lake Hwy and Whittle Ave. Officers discovered that the suspect had arrived on a black electric scooter and had displayed a handgun, ordering the employee to provide money. The employee was able to close the window to the coffee stand, drop to the floor and phone the police. The suspect fled, southbound on Whittle Ave.   Investigators on this case were able to quickly identify a person of interest in this case, 34 year old Raymond William Mathes. At about 8:00 PM on Wednesday, August 21, a Medford Police Officer saw Raymond Mathes riding an identical scooter to the one used in the robbery. He fled from officers, who were able to overtake him. Suicide/Motorcycle Crash

Del Norte County Sheriff's Office On 08-22-24 at about 0930 hours, Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a single vehicle accident involving a motorcycle on Hwy 199. Gasquet Fire Department, California Highway Patrol, Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office, and Del Norte Ambulance responded to the scene.  Witnesses in the area advised the motorcyclist was operating the motorcycle without a helmet, was in possession of a handgun, and had possibly shot himself while traveling on Highway 199. Upon arrival, the motorcyclist was located down an embankment about 50 feet from the roadway. Among multiple injuries, it appeared he had suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A handgun was recovered at the scene.  The motorcyclist was transported via ambulance to Sutter Coast Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Arrest in Lakeside

Coos County Sheriff's Office On 08/21/2024, at approximately 11:50-pm, Sgt. A. Slater responded to a reported disturbance at a residence within Lakeside. A frantic female caller had reportedly informed dispatch she had been struck with a firearm and bleeding from the ear. Dispatch advised the alleged suspect was reported to currently be in possession of two firearms, one described as an AR-15 rifle and currently discharging the rifle. The caller reported the alleged suspect was said to be, and later identified as Rodney P. Yeiter (58).    Officers from Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police, North Bend Police and additional units from Coos County Sheriff’s Office quickly responded to the call.  While officers were on scene, Rodney was contacted and detained for further investigation without incident. DEPUTIES INVESTIGATING SHOOTING NORTH OF COBURG

Lane Co. Sheriff's Office On August 19th at about 3 p.m., Lane County Sheriff’s deputies, Oregon State Police, Coburg Police and Linn County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a reported shooting in the 33000 block of Coleman Road north of Coburg. When they arrived at the location, a male was deceased from a gunshot wound. Detectives began interviewing involved residents, and the investigation is ongoing. There is no ongoing danger to the public. 8/19/24 - At about 9:30 p.m., Detectives arrested Sean Joseph Lynn, 30, for Murder in the 2nd Degree. He was lodged at the Lane County Jail. UPDATE: SEARCH UNDERWAY FOR MAN PRESUMED DROWNED AT DIAMOND LAKE

Sheriff's Office DIAMOND LAKE, Ore. -  Search efforts continued today in the search for a man who drowned at Diamond Lake on Saturday.  For the past two days, deputies have searched for signs of the victim, 37 year old Chimanbai Patel of Bend, Oregon without success. On Saturday, August 17, 2024, at approximately 5:38 pm, 9-1-1 dispatchers received a report that Patel had been on a pontoon boat with friends at Diamond Lake when he jumped into the water to swim. Shortly after entering the water Patel went under and never resurfaced.  Deputies have enlisted the assistance of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office Dive Team, Douglas County Search and Rescue, Klamath County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue, and Oregon State Police. Today, a dog trained in water recovery was deployed on the lake with searchers. Sheriff's Office DIAMOND LAKE, Ore.  - The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is continuing a search for a man who drowned at Diamond Lake Saturday evening.  On Saturday, August 17, 2024, at approximately 5:38 pm, 9-1-1 dispatchers received a report of a man who had been on a pontoon boat with friends at Diamond Lake when he jumped into the water to swim. Shortly after entering the water the victim went under and never resurfaced.  Marine Deputies, along with a rescue crew from Central Douglas Fire & Rescue and an ambulance from Umpqua Valley responded to the scene.
