SUSPECT FACING ATTEMPTED MURDER CHARGES AFTER SHOOTING, STABBINGS

Portland Police Bureau

On Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at 8:42p.m., Portland Police officers assigned to East Precinct responded to a report of a shooting in the 10400 block of Southeast Clinton Street. When they arrived, officers learned that an adult male victim had been shot by a known suspect. The suspect then slashed a female adult neighbor in the hand and menaced another neighbor with the knife. They also learned the suspect was still in the area. Officers quickly located the suspect, who tried to flee police on foot. While running away, he used a knife to stab another neighbor in the neck. Officers deployed a Conducted Electrical Weapon (CEW, or Taser), which was effective, and arrested the suspect.

The victim who was shot was struck in the shoulder and went to the hospital by ambulance. He was released after treatment. The first neighbor who was slashed with a knife, an adult female, declined medical transport and self-treated the injury. The second neighbor who was cut, an adult male, was transported to a hospital by ambulance, treated, and released.

During the event, the suspect also suffered what is believed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the hand. He was transported to the hospital by ambulance.

Major Crimes Unit Detectives responded to the scene to investigate. The suspect remained in the hospital under police guard until Saturday, May 25, 2024, when he was released. Tyler Valenzuela Price, 29, was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree (4 counts), Assault in the Second Degree (3 counts), Unlawful Use of a Weapon (4 counts), and Menacing (2 counts).
