FIREFIGHTERS RESPOND TO CAR DEALERSHIP FIRE IN BEAVERTON
On Wednesday just before midnight, firefighters were dispatched to a reported commercial fire in the 9100 block of Canyon Road in Beaverton. Multiple 911 callers reported seeing flames and smoke coming from a large garage at a car dealership. Additional reports indicated the fire had reached the roof.
Upon arrival, Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue crews discovered flames coming through the roof and heavy black smoke billowing from the two-story garage. The incident was upgraded to a second alarm to bring additional resources to the scene. Firefighters quickly worked to extinguish the fire while initiating a search of the commercial space for occupants. No victims or occupants were found during the search.
TVF&R crews were assisted by firefighters from Portland Fire & Rescue. Firefighters had the fire under control in about 40 minutes and were able to contain it to the service bays. Over a dozen vehicles were damaged in the fire. During the firefighting efforts, Canyon Road was temporarily closed to facilitate emergency operations so firefighters could stretch hose lines across the street to access the nearest hydrant, ensuring a consistent water supply.
A TVF&R fire investigator responded to the scene and is working to determine the cause of the fire. The fire involved multiple electric vehicles, so fire crews consulted with our Hazardous Materials Team and stayed overnight to cool the batteries and prevent reignition. While the fire involved electric vehicles, the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The Incident Commander on scene captured dashcam footage of firefighters making entry by cutting through a bay door and beginning fire suppression. The footage is available for use here.
TVF&R was also assisted on scene by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, American Medical Response, Portland General Electric, and NW Natural Gas.
