Man vs. Machine Extrication
Portland Fire performs a specialized extrication at a local supermarket
Shortly after 4 PM (10/27/22) members of the technical rescue team of PF&R Stations 1 & 12 along with the crew of Truck 25 and C4 were called out to a local supermarket in the 3900 of SE Powell to remove the hand of an employee from a small meat tenderizer. Four fingers of the victim’s right hand were entrapped up to the second knuckle.
The team used an angle grinder to make a relief cut of the machine at which point they were able to force the machine open and extract the victims hand.
The victim was transported to the OHSU trauma center and is currently under their care.
