DFPA NEWS-CURTIN ROAD FIRE
Douglas Forest Protection Association
FRIDAY, JULY 29, 2022: DFPA & North Douglas County Fire & EMS responded to a 0.25-acre grass fire located on Territorial Highway in Curtin, ORE at 4:00 pm.
Fire suppression teams were able to quickly stop the forward spread by 4:05 pm and began mop up at 4:11 pm. Fire was cleared by 4:40 pm. The cause of the fire was created by the legal use of an agricultural hay bailer.
The culture and harvest of agricultural crops is exempt from regulated use restrictions, but this is a great reminder that fuels are dry. With the current increased and prolonged temperatures and lack of substantial rain, fuels are dry and ready to burn. Please take precaution and ensure to follow proper fire preparedness procedures. No one thinks they will be the one that starts a fire, but it takes just one spark. Please be aware of the current conditions- it could mean one less wildfire in our valley.
