Cellphone Tower Rescue

Douglas County Fire District #2

At 2:40 a.m. Friday morning Douglas County Fire District No. 2 units out of the Dixonville

station east of Roseburg were dispatched to a cell tower in the area of Robin Street for an

individual that had climbed the tower and was now unable to climb down. The initial unit

arrived on scene with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office and determined that the department’s

rescue team would be needed to assist the individual down the 90-foot tall tower.

Douglas County Fire District No. 2’s Technical Rescue Team responded and after developing a

plan was able to safely return the individual to the ground. One rescuer was able to climb the

tower using safety equipment and after setting up a rope system was successful in lowering the

individual to safety with assistance from ground crews. The individual was uninjured and denied

any medical treatment.

DCFD2 and DCSO responded to this incident with 1 ambulance, 1 rescue, 2 patrol and 2

command units with a total of 11 personnel. Crews were assisted by a Crown Castle Tower

representative with technical and safety information. After making sure the individual did not

need medical attention, they were turned over to DCSO for questioning.
