SOUTH COUNTY RESIDENT TAKEN INTO CUSTODY AFTER SHOOTING AT DEPUTIES

CORVALLIS, Ore. – On August 17, 2021, at approximately 5:30 p.m., Benton County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) Deputies responded to the area of the 26000 block of Foster Road in rural Benton County for a report of a male actively shooting a firearm in the direction of construction workers at a private residence in the area.  

Deputies established a perimeter of the area and evacuated the construction crew. The Linn-Benton Alert was utilized to notify immediate residents in the neighborhood of the active threat and to shelter-in-place. Deputies on scene attempted to make contact with the suspect and were met with gunfire from the property. During this time, a total of nine shots were fired in nine minutes from the property.  

The Linn County Sheriff’s Office Regional SWAT team responded to assist BCSO. Additionally, the Corvallis Fire Department and the Monroe Rural Fire Department were staged in the area as a precaution. 

At approximately 11:00 p.m., the decision was made to stand down the SWAT team and hand the scene back over to the Benton County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies from the Benton County Sheriff’s Office remained in the neighborhood throughout the night.  

On the morning of August 18, 2021, personnel from the Benton County Sheriff’s Office returned to the location and served a search warrant on the residence. The lone resident of the home, 58-year-old Daniel Scott Roloff, was taken into custody without incident by Benton County Sheriff’s Office personnel. Roloff was transported to the Benton County Jail where he is being held with charges pending.
