WOMAN FOUND DECEASED IN UMPQUA RIVER
Roseburg Police Dept.
Update -
In this earlier release we indicated the decedent was released to the custody of the Medical Examiner. For clarification purposes the appropriate title is the Douglas County Medicolegal Death Investigator. A Medicolegal Death Investigator investigates deaths, they do not determine cause and manner of death. Cause and manner of death is determined by the Chief Medical Examiner or a Deputy State Medical Examiner, who is a licensed physician.
On January 25th, 2021 just after 3:30 PM, Roseburg Police Officers and other emergency services personnel responded to the Umpqua River behind Gaddis Park in Roseburg. A passerby reported seeing a body floating in the river in that area. Officers located an adult female, deceased, floating face-down in approximately 3 feet of water.
The Douglas County Medical Examiner was contacted and responded to the scene. During the investigation the decedent was identified as a 37 year old female from Glendale, Oregon. Her family was contacted and they advised they hadn't seen or heard from her in 4-6 weeks. They further said she had some health issues and was living a transient lifestyle.
Investigators did not observe any signs of foul play and the medical examiner took custody of the decedent.
