Suspect in Butler Road Shooting Arrested

 Lane Co. Sheriff's Office

On October 2, 2020 at 12:10 p.m. the Lane County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a dispute at the 24700 block of Butler Road in the Elmira area. When deputies arrived, multiple shots were fired towards deputies from within the residence. At least one deputy returned fire as they retreated away from the home, thankfully uninjured.  The suspect continued to fire rounds from within the home in the direction of deputies.

The Oregon State Police responded to assist as deputies continued to try to make contact with the suspect, identified as 68 year old Everett Raymond Rojas of Veneta.  Three people from another part of the home were safely evacuated using an armored rescue vehicle.

Due to the nature of the call, the Lane County Sheriff's Office Special Response Team (SRT) responded along with additional armored rescue vehicles.  As SRT was trying to talk Rojas out of the house, he began firing from within the residence again towards deputies.

Shortly before 5:00 p.m., Rojas was arrested outside of the home, uninjured.  Rojas was evaluated by medics on scene and cleared for custody.  Information on charges will be forthcoming.

None of the responding officers were injured during the incident.

The Lane County Interagency Deadly Force Investigation Team will be investigating the incident.
