Major Crimes Team Activated

SUTHERLIN, Ore. – A major crimes investigation is underway in Sutherlin this afternoon.
On Saturday, June 6, 2020, at 1:42 PM, 9-1-1 dispatchers received reports of a shooting which had taken place at the Relax Inn (1386 W. Central Avenue). Sutherlin Police Officers arrived on scene and located one male deceased in the parking lot and a female suffering from gunshot wounds.
The female was transported to an undisclosed hospital for treatment of her injuries. The deceased male has been identified as the subject who fired on the female before turning the gun on himself.
The Douglas County Major Crimes Team has been activated and is conducting an investigation into the incident. The Major Crimes Team consists of investigators from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police and Roseburg Police Department as well as prosecutors from the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office.
No further information is expected to be released at this time.
Sutherlin Police Department was initially assisted by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police,, Roseburg Police Department, REACH Air Ambulance, Umpqua Valley Ambulance and Sutherlin Fire Department.
