Increased vandalism cases
Roseburg Police Dept.
The Roseburg Police Department has recently addressed several concerns regarding recent criminal mischief to businesses in Roseburg, some of which have been targeted in the downtown Roseburg business district. Last week there was an individual who broke a large business window in the 700 block of SE Jackson Street, and that same individual caused damage to several other buildings downtown. He was apprehended and charged with criminal mischief for that incident. Around the same time frame we charged a different female for writing on several businesses with a marker.
Most of that damage was able to be cleaned, as the marker was easily wiped off of most of the surfaces drawn on. Most recently, during the evening of May 5th, morning of May 6th, we responded to a report of criminal mischief to the Republican Headquarters in the downtown area.
Several windows were broken, and graffiti disparaging President Trump was found written on the wall. We have not identified a suspect in that case yet, and would ask if anyone has knowledge of the incident, to please contact us.
In response to this recent increase in criminal mischief, we have increased and dedicated extra patrol coverage specifically to the downtown area. We are also utilizing surveillance cameras in the area to help identify potential suspects or witnesses to these incidents. While the COVID-19 pandemic has increasingly challenged our department and our normal operations, we continue to work tirelessly to investigate all crimes in our community and bring offenders to justice when we can.
