Human Remains Located Six Miles West of Sunriver on National Forest Land; Investigation Underway

On July 28, 2019, at approximately 11:55am, deputies with the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to Deschutes National Forest land approximately 6 miles west of Sunriver after a camper in the area reporting possibly finding a decomposed body. Arriving deputies did locate and confirm human remains alongside a forest road. The Oregon State Police Crime Lab was called out to the scene to assist with the investigation and recovery of evidence.
An autopsy has been scheduled for tomorrow, July 30th, 2019. Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office detectives are working with the State Medical Examiner’s Office to determine identity and cause/manner of death. Detectives do believe foul play occurred in this case. The investigation is active and ongoing and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
