Home Invasion Robbery

Newport Police Dept. - 08/20/18

On August 19, 2018, at 8:00pm, the Newport Police Department responded to a condominium complex on NW Alpine Street on a reported armed home invasion robbery. The complainant reported a suspect had forced his way into a residence with a handgun and told the occupants of the house to leave.

Officers arrived and observed the suspect was still in the residence. Officers surrounded the residence, and the suspect fled out a back door to a nearby vehicle. Officers confronted the suspect as he began to drive from the area.  The suspect was detained and taken into custody without incident.  The suspect was identified as Scott Patrick Lemmon, 27, of Newport.

Further investigation revealed Lemmon had rang the doorbell to the residence and when the victim answered the door, Lemmon pressed a handgun against the victim’s forehead and told the victim and his wife to vacate the residence. Lemmon told the victim he had accomplices outside who would kill the victims if they called the police.
Officers searched the area and located a replica handgun that Lemmon had used.  Officers recovered stolen property, to include cash, electronics, and car keys from the victim’s residence in Lemmon’s possession.
Lemmon was arrested at the scene and lodged in the Lincoln County Jail on charges of Robbery II, Burglary I, Menacing x 2 and Theft 2.
