Arson Investigation in La Pine
Deschutes Co. Sheriff's Office - 08/22/18
On August 21, 2018, at approximately 11:02pm, the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a house fire in the 16000 block of Cassidy Dr. in La Pine. It was reported there was an explosion and flames coming from the living room windows. Deputies arrived on scene at approximately 2305 hours. After notifying neighbors about possible evacuations they began investigating the cause of the fire. The homeowner, Leonard E. Gothberg , later arrived on scene. During the investigation, deputies obtained statements and evidence that led them to believe the cause of the fire was arson. Gothberg was arrested and lodged in the Deschutes County Jail on the charge of Arson I.
This case is still under investigation. The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office is being assisted by the Oregon State Police and La Pine Fire.
